Dress Problems

Rikki, on April 28, 2019 at 3:41 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11
Hi there so I'm a young bride and have been engaged for a while, we never picked a date because we wanted to get more settled, while a few days ago he popped the question and said, "let's just get married" so tada we're getting married next year. About 6 months or so ago I did go dress shopping since I was moving around from friends and wanted that experience with them. I ended up buying a dress for 200. I got the dress and I feel like it wasn't the same one that I fell for at the shop or maybe I was just too excited about the experience and I was never fully in love with it in the first place. Well now that were serious about getting married and stuff, the dress just doesn't feel right anymore. We have a tight budget of 1000$ and he said that I could use some to alter the dress into what I want since I would have to shorten it since it's an outside wedding but I feel like the price tag for that would just be too much. I've been looking around and have seen dresses I like that are for 50 or so (not wedding dresses but really pretty white dresses). So I'm wondering if I should just move on or if I should try to relight the spark I had with my old dress.

Maybe you could take your dress to a seamstress to see how much it would cost to turn it into what you want. Alterations can run around $500 or so, so going with a new dress would probably be your best bet budget wise.

Don’t write off alterations completely. Mine only cost $100. I used an independent seamstress who works out of her house. I googled seamstresses in my area and started at the top and called each one.

We are getting married outdoors in the woods and my dress is long, so u dont have to have a short dress unless that is what u really want. I would find a seamstress and talk to them.

I would prefer a shorter dress at least above the ankles right now the one I have is dragging on the ground

Hi Rikki! Congratulations on your engagement, and welcome to Wedding Wire!!

This is a tough situation. Before making a decision, maybe checking with a seamstress would be best. See if any alterations can be made that will cause you to fall in love with your dress again. That could be less expensive in the long run than buying a whole new dress.

There must have been a reason you loved it to begin with. Maybe try it on again, and see if you can discover that reason. Good luck!

Hey Rikki!! Have you brought your wedding dress to a seamstress to see what she says? 😃
