Dress Regret

Caitlin, on November 22, 2018 at 11:26 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 20
Im getting married in July 2019 and bought my dress in April 2018. I live out of state so when I had my dress appointment I think I felt pressured to pick a dress that day.

I kept coming back to the dress that I bought that day. But I never got that “this is it” feeling. The whole experience was rushed and kind of stressful for me so maybe I was just overwhelmed?

To make things worse, ordered a size up from the dress I tried on that fit perfectly (in the picture) because I had already lost weight and didn’t want to feel pressured to fit into the smaller dress size. So when I tried it on when I picked it up, it was HUGE and in a different color than I initially tried on so I felt pretty disappointed.

How have you dealt with uncertainty about your dress choice?

Well if that’s you’re dress it’s gorgeous!! I love The color and the detail! But with that being said if you have the budget and time look again soon. You might find you do love your dress or something better!

I have been uncertain about my dress since the day I bough it. I love it when I’m in it, but I’m not thrilled when I look back at photos of it. It gives me a lot of anxiety. Like, maybe I should have tried more on...looked for longer.

But I keep telling myself, I am 100% certain about the groom without dating every man out there. So, I can choose a dress without trying them all on. And I remind myself that I’m marrying the man of my dream, everything else is just icing on the cake. That helps me get through it.

Plus I haven’t had alterations yet. I know that will change things. I know none of that really helps, but I think it’s normal to feel
anxiety over picking out a dress this far in advance from something.

Thanks, Rachel. Your comment actually really helped. It is just the icing on the cake. And I also still have alterations so hopefully I will feel a little better after those begin.

Thank you, Laura! I considered looking for a second dress but the process was stressful the first time and I don’t know if I could do it again.

Hopefully after alterations it will all come together

First of all, that dress is GORGEOUS on you. I didn't have that crying, this is it feeling when I bought my dress. I bought it because it was beautiful, felt good on me, and it looked great on my body. I do think from time to time that maybe I should have looked around more, but im thinking I only feel that way because I would be chasing that crying this is it feeling. Trust your gut in the end, but you look amazing. They can take the dress in and make it look perfect, so no worries there.

Thanks, Tamara. I’m hoping maybe with veil and alterations I may feel more reassured. I agree, I chose this dress because of the same reasons you did

    Your dress is beautiful!

I went to Kleinfeld's in NYC. It was a very long day and I left feeling torn. That same night I went to a local dress shop with my MOH before she headed home. (Out of state). I decided and bought my dress. From that night I had reservations. When I looked at the pictures I didn't get that feeling. It was the exact opposite. I knew it was not the one. I kept looking at other dresses. I also kept looking at the pictures of the dresses I tried on in NYC. When I went shopping with my girls for dresses, I fell in love with another dress. I tried it on. I cried the ugly cry. That was it. I talked it over with my FH and decided to get the second dress. I do hope that I can sell the first one and break even, but the way I felt in the second dress was nothing like I did in the first. It is everything I wanted and more.

Good luck! I do think you look gorgeous in this dress!

Caitlin, your dress honestly gorgeous! You look stunning in it and it looks like it was made for you! Smiley heart

I agree, once you start fittings and alterations especially, it will really start to feel like your dress. You're going to look absolutely lovely on your wedding day and we are so excited for you!

Do you know how you want to wear your hair yet? Will you be wearing a veil? Smiley smile

Thank you, Maren! I’m hoping once the personal touches are added that it becomes more “‘mine”!

I plan on wearing if my hair up so that it shows the back. And yes, I’ll be wearing a veil also.

While I think that dress is very pretty, I totally understand. I posted about this a little while back and ended up getting a new dress. I had to get it at the same store and while I like it better, I'm still shopping for the right one. If I find it, I'll sell the one I have. If I don't, mine will do.

When I went shopping starting over, I fell in love with ballgowns. I'm short and thin, but have broader shoulders and didn't want anything strapless. Welp, turns out they gave me the giddy "bride" feeling I was looking for. The epiphany I had while in the salon the other day and trying on another fitted dress is that I wear fitted dresses all the time. That's what I wear to work - fitted (usually tank sleeve and v neck) dresses. I wear something fitted all the time, I want my wedding dress to be "special.' Something I would never wear... which you wouldn't wear a wedding dress on a daily basis but I think you know what I mean. I wanted my wedding dress to look like a wedding dress. And in my opinion after trying on more, the fitted doesn't feel like a wedding dress.
