Dress Regrets

Mrs. C, on February 27, 2019 at 11:18 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 59

I bought my dress back in July almost right after I got engaged. It is the most beautiful dress I have ever seen or put on my body but now that it is tailored to hug my body more, I feel like it draws too much attention to my not small waist. It is more of a fit and flare, all lace with a champagne colored lining underneath. Now that I am able to see my waist in it, I am thinking I should have chosen something maybe that doesn't draw the eye as much to my waist. I have also lost 26 lbs since buying the dress. I really thought losing weight would help me to feel more confident but in all honesty it hasn't. I want to feel beautiful on my wedding day and I cannot afford to buy another dress nor will I have the time to get another dress in with my wedding only 2 months away. My mom and sister absolutely love how I look in it but all I can see when I turn to the side and look at myself is a big girl trying to play dress up. I have shapewear that has helped some but I am thinking about getting some that gives me even more support.

Sorry to rant, I am just feeling really discouraged. Hope I am not the only one who has gone through this.

We are often our worse critics. Do you have a picture? I bet the dress looks beautiful on you! I am sorry you are feeling this way though. Maybe you can add a sparkly belt or applique to bring the eyes up more. Give your "girls" a push up to really bring the eyes up more, haha. Or accessorize with blingy jewelry....all little tricks to take the eyes away from (what we feel are) problem areas. Also, no, you are NOT the only one going through this....I think a lot of us are self conscious about certain parts of our appearance. Even though my dress has a built in corset and covers really well, I still don't love the side view of my waist.

I'm sorry you feel that way! Could you add boning to the inside of the dress? Mine has a ton of boning and it made me feel way better about the dress.

I am looking for better shapewear preferably a corset you can "hook" in the front. What would you suggest?

I am looking for better shape wear. I have thought about adding a belt but I have buttons all the way down my back so I’m not sure how that would look. I have pictures of the back. I don’t have great pictures of the front that would reflect how it fits currently. I have to wait one more week to get final fitting pictures. But here is a picture of the back so you can see the buttons.

Would have to see a pic of the dress but what types of shapewear do you feel that you need? I bought my shapewear from David's Bridal, it was all suggested by the consultant and fits perfectly with the dress. As for confidence you probably look gorgeous in the dress, I really wouldnt worry it's most likely nerves

I have shapewear on under my dress in that picture but it's the side view I am worried about. I currently dont have a picture of that view of my dress. I am wondering how a belt might look with the buttons in the back going all the way down. Maybe that would be too much?

I have a body suit under the dress in this pic. Its the type that look like bathing suits but you can wear your own bra. I am looking for something with more support for my lower stomach though. I still have a little paunch going on.

My dress has a corset, can they do that with the back of your dress vs the buttons or do you like the buttons?? Can you find shapewear that focuses more on the stomach?

I cant see well enough to see if you can add a belt, sorry..

Yeah I’m trying to find “focused” shapewear. I will attach a picture of the front but keep in mind 1) I did not have on the right bra(I found a much more supportive bra because the body suit in this is squishing my boobs and 2) it fits even better now than it does in this picture. I feel like a belt might help but with the buttons in the back and the details on the dress I’m afraid it will be too much going on.

I would personally do some research online there are tons of corset sites. You could also go to a specialty shop we don’t have many in my area but they are still out there. A place where you can get large size bras would have a good selection. My cousin is a size G and goes to a shop they have everything there

That is what I was thinking as well I am just really nervous about ordering something online and then getting it and trying it on and it not working and then having to send it back multiple times. I only have 2 months to the wedding so I am nervous about the back and forth of that and how long that will take.

Oh girl I feel you! Sadly I am the opposite and put on weight so my dress that made my waste look a little smaller really highlighted how big I am. Esp since I was bloated being on my period on my wedding day. I look at the pics and hate how I look but everyone said I looked beautiful. I have never liked how I look in anything though...even years and years ago when i was skinny. Sigh. If they tell you that you look beautiful then trust them.

Beautiful! You can get an applique instead of a belt, and have a seamstress sew it on for you. Etsy has them from $20 - $60. Instead of choosing a belt option, you choose applique only on the pull down menu. That way you don't have a belt going all the way around your dress. Here is an example of one:

Most wedding dresses fit "bulky" for a lack of better word. The skinniest person can put on a dress and it adds 3-4 inches to her waist.. it's just how the dress is made. I know mine isn't the most flattering from the side, but not all my pictures will be from a side angle and I love how my dress pulls my waist in. I'm sure everyone will think you look amazing.. we're our worst critics.
