Dress Shopping Advice?

I am getting married October 9 of this year and have booked an appointment to go dress shopping this weekend! For those of you who have your dresses, what advice would you give looking back that you wish you’d had when dress shopping? Also curious as to what undergarments and shoes you wore...

Be open to try other options far as different styles and enjoy it cuz this is your last time hehe.. take lots of pictures and search dresses you wouldn't mind trying so you can give them an ideal of your look. Plus have a theme for your wedding if you are going to already planned to go perfect with your dress..shave and make sure they have shapewear if not bring one for back up... Good luck

I bought a strapless bra and all dresses ended up having built in systems so you might not need one

take your TIME! the sales person are there to help you.
I bought a dress I NEVER imagined buying. so be open minded!!
definitely consider your venue and time of year! you don’t want to buy a dress that is out of place.
and don’t give a crap about what others think!

Great point about making sure to incorporate the theme/setting of the wedding, I didn’t think about that at first, but after doing some research, realized it was important! And thank you!

That’s a good idea, I had heard that I may not need a bra, so was thinking of going braless, but I think I will bring one in case! Thanks for your advice!

You should try on several different silhouettes, even if you don’t think you will like them. I tried on a lot of a-line and ballgowns, but only one fitted dress. I love my dress, but I still wish I would have tried more fitted to rule them out.

This is the best advice. Stay in the dress as long as you can, so you're sure that you love it.

I wore nude underwear and a nude strapless bra with heels! I wanted to get an idea of walking around in heels with the dress on. Just relax and enjoy! Its a great experience!!

I would say if you feel rushed during your appointment to pick something dont do it because of that. It almost happened to me where the girl helping rushed to pick out dresses (and I only had an option of 5 dresses to try on that day) and I almost missed my dress. If I hadn't stopped for the second I had i would have missed it and felt pressured to get one I was just okay with. Also I just wore regular shoes and socks and I didn't wear a bra but it didn't make a difference to me.

Wear regular undergarments. They do not have to be nude colored. Invest in a strapless bra before you go since you will be topless in front of strangers.

Try on everything. Do not trust magazine photos.
Make sure to move around ALOT in each dress for at least 20 minutes. Walk around, dance, bend over etc. One of the biggest complaints about dresses on the boards here is ladies say they cannot move at all in what they bought so they opt for an equally expensive reception dress and blow the budget.
You know it's the one when you do not want to take it off. Sleep on the decision.
Once you purchase, stop looking at other dresses.

I got mine online and while i do not regret that, i wish i had still had the boutique experience beforehand to try on different gowns.

i ended up doing that AFTER getting my gown haha. but now when i give advice to brides i tell them to go try on gowns before getting it online

Tell everyone that you bring with you to keep quiet until you have your own opinion of the dress. I found myself caving my wants because my entourage said I looked great. I ended up going to my last appointment by myself and found the perfect dress for me.

I only brought my mom and one sister (because of covid) and sooooo happy I did because I didn’t realize how stressful it actually could be

A dress you may have in mind may not look how you envisioned it on and that’s okay.
Ask the consultant to pick a dress for you! My consultant picked the dress I said yes to. I couldn’t describe what I wanted and the dresses I picked felt like it was missing something. She knew exactly what I wanted.
Don’t feel like you’ll say yes to the dress the first appointment and you may not cry! I’m a cryer and didn’t cry lol.

I wore comfortable clothes lol leggings and tennis shoes. I took them off when trying on. My advice is: keep the entourage small, don’t go out and show every dress if you put it on and are like “ew no way” just take it off and move on and save time so you can try on more. Get what is comfortable and makes you feel good and try on many styles you might be shocked! I thought I wanted a glam dress with long sleeves and I tried a ton of them on and looked like an old woman in a curtain. I ended up jokingly grabbing an off the shoulder elegant ball gown and was like “omg did I just try this on as a joke and literally love it ?!?” And now I have an off the shoulder satin ball gown
