Dress shopping under $500?

I need help! I’ve been trying to keep my budget tight. We splurged on venue and photography because that’s what we felt was important to us so I’m trying to stay under $500 on my dress. It seems impossible and I’m feeling pretty discouraged. Anybody have luck with this? If so, where? I am in Kansas...

Online, for new dresses, I'd recommend Lulu's, ASOS, and BHLDN. Azazie, JJ's House, and David's Bridal also have sale dresses that would fall within your budget range.

If you are open to pre-loved dresses, you can find amazing deals on StillWhite, OnceWed, PreownedWeddingDresses.com, Poshmark, Mercari, Tradesy, and the like. I got my $2000+ dress on StillWhite for less than $500 shipped and it already had a bustle added, was altered to fit my size, and was dry cleaned and ready to go. There are usually a mix of lightly worn and sample dresses in excellent condition, and some of the dresses on those sites are even NWT and the bride just changed her mind or the event was canceled.

If you are planning on alterations, be sure to budget at least an extra $50-$150 for those (that's just for minor stuff, like small adjustments, hemming, and maybe a basic bustle). Alterations can easily get into the $500-$800 range for more complex adjustments, such as dealing with beadwork and appliques, multi-layer bustles, or altering necklines, adding sleeves, etc.

Etsy! I got mine custom made off of Etsy for just under $600. It is made of WAY higher quality materials and craftsmanship than anything I tried on in any boutique in even the $3,000 range. I would be happy to recommend the designer to you if you send me a message!
