Dress shopping?

Ashley, on July 27, 2022 at 1:56 PM Posted in Planning 4 8
So I really have no idea what type of dress I want. Maybe some but I flip flop a lot. I really want to try to go to a shop or two myself just to get an idea of what I like and don’t like and then set up an appointment with my mom and in-laws/bridesmaids. Anyone else do this?? I don’t want to waste my friends and parents time by dragging them around shops or get into dresses I’ve got no clue if I’d even like you know??

I say find the dress that compliments your body type. Also if they are your bridesmaids, mom, etc it shouldn’t feel like a waste of time to them. This is a big thing and they should want to go.

I'm sure they don't look at it that way either, but they are all over the state so I would feel bad having them (or some) drive to different shops that are hours away! I do have a few that would rather facetime and I find that ok too Smiley shame

Yes I think FaceTiming would be a great idea for the people who live in different states. It’s cool that you can do group calls now too.

I didn't know what type of dress I'd end up with, and I knew I just needed to see it on my body! I decided to take my mom and FMIL dress shopping and keep it a surprise for my bridesmaids. That way, I wouldn't have the opinion of 8 people and only the opinion of 2, AND I wouldn't be dragging my bridal party around if I couldn't find what I liked. I can't wait to surprise my 'maids with a first look! Two of them were mad about my decision (not mad mad, but like "WTFFF noooo!!!" mad) but it was 100% worth it. I love my mom & FMIL and we got to get all toasty together at a local brunch spot and had the best time during and after!

Don’t worry about it. The consultant will ask you a few questions to get an idea what you like. They’ll also pull some dresses that you would’ve never thought about trying on to help narrow down a silhouette. Try on as many as you need to.
And that’s the best part of the fitting. You’ll have people around you who will you help guide you and give unbiased opinions.

I think it helps to think of the kinds of dresses you've worn in the past that you thought looked good on you and you felt good in (bodycon, a-line, sheath, etc.). If you take in a few pictures and tell the consultant what elements you like/ don't like, they should be able to help you narrow your choices down. It's also pretty normal to have an appointment just to look around to get an idea of what you like without the intent of buying something. That was what I PLANNED to do, but I actually ended up finding The One™ lol.

I did this! I actually went to 2 bridal shops with my fiance to figure out the style I was looking for, then booked a final appointment at another dress shop for the "girls experience."

Yes! This was my exact thought. I actually did the same, I've gone to one alone, and may do another alone but have a kind of 'final' appointment with some of my bridesmaids and my parents going. It's been so helpful because overall I realized the style I liked in pictures is not what I liked on my body Smiley xd
