Dress shopping

Chelsea, on February 28, 2020 at 1:53 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 18

How far out did you start trying on dresses? I am just worried with the cornavirus hearing brides dresses coming in late. I am also the type that is picky and have not looked at a single dress besides when they are at bridal shows so i know its going to take some time. I made my first appointment May 2nd. Im nervous as can be but by that point ill be 13 months out.

Currently if you get a dress from davids bridal, not on the rack, you'll have to wait till July. (at least thats what all my bridesmaids are experiencing). It is impacting their imports because they outsource to china. I don't think it is ever too early to get a dress. Just keep in mind you'll probably have to do alterations.

I think You should start ASAP . I ordered mine last I October and it’s scheduled to be here in August. If you end up adding customization that could add 1-3 months and you’ll need alterations and a cushion for any mistakes.

I have read a few articles that bridal shops are encouraging 2021 brides to start shopping earlier because of the coronavirus. I would start looking and trying dresses on soon that way you have a better idea what you want. Some dresses take 8-10 months to get in and with the virus it might take longer.

And that’s without even allotting time for the spread of the virus we don’t know how far it will spread and what else will be affected. So it’s better to be safe than sorry. It may also take you a while to find your dress.

So for me, I got engaged July 21 2020. I went dress shopping in mid September 2019. (I went to a boutique who I knew had the dress I wanted) I ordered my dress that same day. It came in the last week of January 2020, and my first fitting is next Thursday the 5th! (Wedding date 5/9/20)

Sharing my personal timeline/experience, I feel like the process for me so far has been very smooth, with no issues at all.. But I would say definitely start looking and getting an idea at least 1 year in advance!

    Good Luck, and Congrats!

I went shopping in April for March. Dress got here in September.
May for July 2021 should be PLENTY of time. That gives you the traditional 6 months of waiting plus a few extra months for them to catch up on a backlog.

I looked for my dress right after I got engaged. We got engaged 11 months out from the wedding. I don't think it's every too early, especially with the virus.

I got engaged on 11/16/2019. I am getting married 9/5/2020. I went and tried dresses on at David's bridal on 11/25/2019. I was so excited I didn't want to wait long, plus they were going to have a black Friday sale. I was able to find my dress that day and have them hold it for me until black Friday so I could get their sale price. ( I got my dress for 30% of it's original price! ) They had my size on the rack so it didn't ship from anywhere else and I got it in 3 days. If you go with David's bridal dress will usually ship right from which ever store has your size on hand. I'm not sure how long alterations take because I didn't need any.

I’m getting married next November and I already have my dress ordered. I wanted to start early in case I didn’t find something I liked or there was a problem with ordering. I ordered from David’s Bridal and they told me I’ll have it by the end of March. I think it depends on the designer with them as to where it’s coming from, but it never hurts to start early.

I’d start ASAP. Other than David’s a dress can take 6-8 months but right now dresses are delayed 2-3 with the virus I’m reading. And you want to leave 2 months for alterations.

I went at the end of September 2019. It got here at the end of January. I get married in October. It's currently at the bridal boutique because I wasn't expecting it so early and haven't had time to pick it up. Each designer is different though. They said my designer (Essense of Australia) was known to take four months tops but most other designers are closer to six. If you're getting married in July 2021, I'd probably try for May/June.
