Dress Stress

Dusty, on June 27, 2024 at 1:38 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17
Hello all. My wedding us 109 days away & the seamstress has messed my dress up. She cut too much material off and made it too small. I am asking for a full refund of what I paid her. She is refusing to give me a refund. Am I wrong?!

If she altered the dress so it can’t fit you and can’t be made to fit you — the literal opposite of why you hired her — then I think a full refund is reasonable!

Thank you. I agree. She has completely refused. I've now had to file a complaint with the BBB. Being a bride and planning a wedding is stressful enough. She altered the illusion material too small then wanted to put a piece of lace over it to try to fix her mistake. That would completely change my dress & she stated that I was not open minded. It would change the look of my dress. She is literally trying to make this my fault she has been gaslighting me thru email. I'm beyond upset.

Where is the illusion material? If it's on the back and everything else was unchanged, you could carefully cut it out and have an open backed dress

It the front of my dress. The illusion cuts down the front of my dress with three buttons on the back of the neck. She made it so small I can't button the dress with out the material digging into my skin. This results in the front illusion darting from my shoulders to my chest. So end result the illusion is no longer an illusion you can see the darting from across the room. The back of my dress is completely open.

Yikes! Maybe find a new seamstress and ask for help? They might be able to fix it

Clearly it is her fault, and she needs to correct the mistake. Maybe taking her to court for damages and emotional stress. When you handed her your dress, you did so with the confidence that the person you are paying it provide a service will come through, she was professional, and she knew what she was doing.

Court will be my next course of action, unfortunatelyi did not want it to go that far. I would've not gone as far as filing a complaint with the BBB if she would have just given me moly money back. And the kicker is there was no contact between the two of us saying "no refunds" but here i am out 957$. I'm very thankful for the support I've been shown here. This has me under a tremendous amount of stress. I appreciate all the support.

This is ridiculous, if the dress doesn't fit, they have to repair your dress but are required to keep the original design. Otherwise, it won't be the dress you love. I completely understand this. Hope you can get your money back soon or can receive the dress you want.

No you are not wrong. Maybe ask for a whole new dress instead of a refund. Her mistake she needs to fix.

If you consider a small claims case, you have to gather as much evidence as possible. If possible document what your size was before the fitting and after the fitting -- measurements and weight. Check the measurements of that style dress. Show a picture when the dress fit fine on you. Do video showing the measurement of the dress after the seamstress was done. Show any evidence you have of the agreements, order, appointments and payments involving the seamstress work. Also, don't threaten that you will sue unless you know you will sue if needed. Sometimes the lawsuit is enough to get someone to cooperate, but it involves a bit of work to build the case. -- and not always worth the effort.

All by Oly ( Dundee) is run by a seamstress (Olga) with incredible talent. Take your pieces and your dress to her. See what she might suggest. It's terrible what happened to you but dont let it spoil your special day.

BBB does absolutely nothing. You can file a small claims case like others have mentioned.

I would go leaving her bad reviews everywhere. Google, yelp, any wedding sites and apps like this, tictoc.
She might give you your refund in exchange for taking down the damaging reviews.
