Dress too tight now...

NerdyBride, on June 25, 2017 at 10:18 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 30

My dress needed to be taken in when I got it, so the seamstress took my measurements, pinned the dress, and assured me it would fit like a glove when I came back two weeks later. Fast forward and the dress is now too tight! I haven't gained any weight in the last two weeks, and my measurements are still the same. Do I request she let it back out (even though that'll probably cost a small fortune), or do I just buckle down and try to lose some weight? I would only need to lose about 5-10lbs for it to fit well--it closes and everything, just makes me look very squished

Definitely ask her to fix her mistake. If your measurements are the same, this should not cost extra. Alterations often include multiple fittings to make small adjustments. If you had changed your weight a bunch, then the cost would be on you for the new alteration, but if she flubbed the first alteration, she should be responsible for fixing her mistake without charge.

Maybe it is water retention from salty type food.

I'm sorry to hear that. I have a similar problem, but I'm just trying to lose the weight. Im sure you will look amazing! If you have time to lose it do it, if not just have her let it out but, it should be discounted bc, she must have taken it in too much! I hope it works out! When is the wedding?

I am having the same problem and am having it taken back out. I tend to hold water when stressed and don't want to add the additional weight loss stress to the rest of it (my lifestyle is conducive to maintenance fitness but not intense weight loss fitness - I horseback ride and ride the stationary bike while studying for my professional exam before work - I work 55+ hour weeks). Just be honest with yourself. If you think you can, have the time, and would enjoy the process of losing it, do that. If you're comfortable where you are and think losing will be a chore and another stressor, have it taken out. If you do decide to lose cutting carbs and sugar and drinking water may have a solid initial impact as these things tend to make us hold bloat.

I would have fixed to fit you as you are now. You should not pay for her mistake.

Thanks, guys! The wedding is 8/4. Unfortunately, I didn't take any pictures because I was pretty much in shock about how tight it looked. I was afraid I had gained weight, but I measured myself once I got home and realized that I hadn't.

You still have time. I think 5 lbs by 8/4 is very manageable especially if some of it is water weight

I think it's possible to lose that much but I think she should fix her mistakes

Do not add more pressure into yourself. You should never try to make yourself fit into some thing.

I would ask her to fix her mistake (especially since the measurements are the same).

I agree. I have more time to exercise now that the school year is over, so I think it is very doable. I want her to let it out so I don't need to stress about it, but at the same time I don't want to make a stink and then end up losing a few pounds anyway (summer, being outside, wedding stress) and needing it taken back in anyway

I would definitely tell her to fix it! If your measurements are the same, this is her mistake and she needs to correct it!

It may be water gain but I don't think that would be that much for it being so tight.

I would ask her to loosen it a little.

How tight is it? Can you get it buttoned/zipped? At my final fitting about a week and a half before the wedding my dress fit perfectly. Then my stress level went sky high, I wasn't eating much, and my dress was too big on my wedding day. The dress did stretch throughout the day too. In hindsight I almost wish my dress was a little snug at my last fitting.

Hmm that's actually really reassuring to hear! It does zip and button so maybe I'm worrying too much?

Don't add the stress of losing weight to your wedding day. You look thinner and more confident when things fit correctly!

Did you wear the exact same undergarments? Those can definitely make a difference. It's also entirely possible to be the exact same weight and your measurements be different

@blair I actually was wearing something different but I wouldn't have thought it would make a difference. At the first fitting I wore no undergarments and at the second I actually had shapewear on. I thought it would be an improvement, but could it actually have made it look worse?

I wouldn't add the added stress of losing a few lbs. Her mistake, she should fix it. I don't think you should have to pay for her mistake either.

@OP, the shapewear definitely makes a difference. There is the issue, problem solved.
