Dresses and Big Busts!

Future Mrs. K :), on May 26, 2011 at 4:23 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 1 48

So I am about 5'2" and have an abnormally large chest. I have not started looking for dresses yet because to be honest, I am afraid I will HATE everything I try on because I HATE the way everything looks on me because of the girls. Are there certain types of styles to definitely try on, stay away from, not even look at...What kind of luck have you had when finding the dress that fits you just right?!

I am large on top as well 46G, i found that sweetheart necklines looked good as well as halters but with halters it started to weigh on my neck because of the weight from my chest.

I felt the same way and believe it or not the best dress for me was a strapless that is straight across. The consultant had to convince me that this was the best option for not accentuating them and she was right. Sounds weird but it somehow it works.

@savanna-that makes sense and I do NOT want them to be the focus of my day! That is also what I am fearful of :-/

@STB-I agree with the halters and the weighing on the neck, however, they do tend to look the best. Ill try the sweetheart ones too though and see how they look!

    Thanks ladies!

Its so frustrating! I have this problem just buying regular clothes and I get sooooo frustrated! And you want to look beautiful and elegant on your wedding day. How do you acheive that look when all you can see is what's right there...under your nose!

Hey Future Mrs. K, I have a large bust as well and found my dress at Curvaceous Couture. It's located in Maryland, I'm not sure if they have other locations. I found that strapless dresses worked best for me..

I am a DD and also afraid I tried on dresses and oh my I realized the style dress that I wanted is not for me which is strapless and sweetheart. I tried on halter ones and ones with regular straps on it that comes half way down my shoulder and I will be going for the straps.

I say attempt to try on some and see what fits you the best

I didn't want a strapless dress for this reason but the dress I fell in love with is strapless. The neckline is straight across and very flattering. It doesn't look as if I have a large chest (36D) and it fits and looks even better w/out a bra! Crazy!

That is definitely an option...but not till after we have babies. We have a family friend that did it before she had her babes and she grew them all back...and then some. And she still has them!

I've dealt with this since I was 15...I hate the girls! It also doesn't help that gravity has taken over : ( (fh has promised me a lift/reduction in the future). But my dress is strapless and I love it! It is so comfortable. Just make sure and get a long line bustier but one that isn't padded or "uplifting". Mine is just basic and soft cups so it doesn't give me a bunch of cleavage, but doesn't make them look saggy either. I have this one:

Im a DD and strapless sweetheart looked the best on me. And corset back and boning really gave me a lot of support- i didnt have to wear a bra with any of those. I didnt like how the straight across strapless looked on me.

I am thinking I might have to go the braless route unless I can find something the is so comfortable I wouldnt even realize Im wearing one. So Britteny I will for sure look into that. Thanks for the suggestion Smiley smile

I had the same problem, but I also have the problem of a really small rib cage, so people look at me like I have 3 heads in disbelief when I say I wear a 32F (I have been told I should really be in a 30, but what the hell?). It took me a long time to actually get the nerve up to dress shop, once I did it wasn't so bad. In the end I bought a strapless that went straight across so that the girls were all in order. But I did find one that was a v-neck with straps that I LOVED! Only it was 2x the cost of the other one and in pics made me look like I had broad shoulders (which I don't). Take pics when you try on the dresses, they will look different than what you remember in the mirror. When it came down to it the strapless made me look tiny and wonderful, I want to wear that dress everyday! Smiley winking Good luck!

Strapless dresses keep slipping on me and showing more chest than I mean to. I also have your problem but I don't think it needs to be seen as a problem. The main thing is to wear a dress with simple, sleek lines and not any decoration or frills on top. Big poofy things on the bottom are fine since they balance the top out. Go with thick-but-feminine straps on top and a flare out bottom.

Im a 36DD and thought for sure I would end up with a gown that had straps. And I was fine with that. But I tried on everything! I found a strapless sweetheart that fits perfectly! I won't have to wear a bra and it doesn't slip at all. I read somewhere that if you are having issues with the dress slipping (strapless, halter, whatever) that it's not fitting correctly through your waist. That area needs to be taken in and then you won't have the issues of the halter pulling on your neck or the strapless falling down. My advice......just try on every style you can! You'll find what works best with your own body. Good luck! I actually had a blast trying on dresses!

I have the opposite problem! I found that sweetheart neckline gave me more of a bust! So that might be a neckline you shy away from? Hope you find the perfect dress, you will be beautiful!
