Dresses and Big Busts!

So I am about 5'2" and have an abnormally large chest. I have not started looking for dresses yet because to be honest, I am afraid I will HATE everything I try on because I HATE the way everything looks on me because of the girls. Are there certain types of styles to definitely try on, stay away...

Are there certain types of styles to definitely try on, stay away from, not even look at...What kind of luck have you had when finding the dress that fits you just right?!

I found that halters made me look bustier (thankfully).

Hi Mrs K- I'm a lingerie designer and I make supportive garments specifically for large busted women. I can tell you that the dress doesn't matter as much as your undergarments underneath. Be sure to find a bustier that really supports you. That being said, usually strapless dresses with a straight neckline minimize bust the best. Consider drawing attention away from your top half with an eye-catching detail on the bottom of your dress- like a pretty lace trim or a train. Good luck!

I found a corset dress really helped the girls stay in place, and its strapless but they dont spill out the top

@ Clare-thank you for the tip. In my everyday life that is all that is ever focused on and I have become super self concious about my chest. On my wedding day, I want to make sure that the focus is definitely on me...and not the twins!

@ Lala-that is great advice actually about it being an issue in the waist and not in the bust.

Thanks everyone for your help! Still nervous about trying them on but it helps to have the support. Thanks Smiley smile

I wear a 32F and for some reason the sweetheart made me look even bigger! I opted for a dress with one strap so I will have a little support to hold it up.

You can always get measured and have a dress sewn by a bridal seamstress. In my opinion, V-neck is the best - it elongates your torso. And you can usually wear your own bra with a V-neck, which is definitely the most comfortable and stress-free.

Although that would be the ideal situation, a dress made just for me, I cant imagine that is cheap! I guess I can look around my area and see if anyone does that before I make any major decisions. Thanks for the tip Smiley smile

I'm a 38DD and my dress has a straight across strapless top. It goes high enough to cover the tops of my breasts and really minimizes my chest. I was afraid that strapless would accentuate my chest but this cut did just the opposite.

I am gathering that this seems to be the most effective cut of dress. Thanks Catherine Smiley smile

@Savanna that is true strapless look great on top heavy women. I wear an H cup so I understand your worries. Corsets will help because it will give you a waistline and can help hold in the girls. Also A line dresses gives a nice silhouette

I am a 36G. I got this halter dress in a size 16 (to fit my big boobies) and had the rest of the dress altered down to fit the rest of me (size 10). It looks so pretty. I stayed away from strapless. I would be too worried about my boobs hanging out to relax and enjoy the day. (Try bravissimo.com for bras to go under your dress. They come from England but they are pretty and fit big boobs.)

Forgot to mention. They shortened the straps and used the extra fabric to make a "modesty panel" so the front did not cut down too much and show too much cleavage.

I am 4'11" and a 36H. I had the same worry that you are having but LOVED every moment of dress shopping! I was terrified to go at first and it turned out to be the most amazing experience. The frame work under a wedding dress is miracle and makes your body look absolutely amazing!

Much to my surprise, I ended up with a strapless dress also Smiley smile It has a very subtle sweetheart neckline.

@Jessica R. my fiance just recently discovered Bravissimo for me. I just received my second bra from them last week and I LOVE them. They are definitely worth checking out if you are large busted.

My dress is has a sweetheart neckline. A friend of mine got married last year. Her dress had a sweetheart neckline as well, but she was busting out of her dress and constantly picking it up. While I loved her dress, that just wasn't cute. I don't want my girls to be the focus of my day either, although I do love them. BUT there has to be a line drawn at some point as to what's tastefully done and what is just downright tacky. What looks the worst on me is the straight strapless dress. It makes my girls look and feel super squished. My dream dress easily became the dress I hated the most!!! The dress I hated, in turn, became my dream dress Smiley smile

Another tip: When I went dress shopping the first girl helping me had no boobs. I told her no strapless (I hate them) and she was giving me a hard time about it. I found another sales girl with big boobs and she totally got my issues and I felt a million times more comfortable with her helping me.
