Dressing up my indoor reception space - need ideas

Amanda, on July 20, 2021 at 4:53 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 8
Hello! I booked my venue so that we will have our ceremony, cocktail hour and reception all at the same property. #1 reason for choosing the venue is the outdoor space - it has a gorgeous view of the ocean. However, the reception space is a little plain/dark for my taste. Any ideas for how to brighten this up and/or add some 'wow'?

Wow that is a beautiful ceremony space! I think if you do some tall centerpieces with lots of white and ivory and some greenery would be pretty. If you are having a nighttime reception alternate tables between high floral centerpieces and ones with multiple candles and more flowers around. Do they have different chair options?

Agreed with PP about the florals and maybe a different chair option (or if they have a vendor for rentals). Also work with a DJ who can do uplighting and help brighten it up using lighting.

Yes!! We'll be doing the Chiavari chairs probably in silver. Thank you for the suggestion about the centerpieces I didn't think of that!

Editing to add: we will be renting different chairs (Chiavari chairs in silver) and will be doing floor length table linens (probably in navy blue) and using a florist for centerpieces. We have a dj who can do uplighting. Those are all awesome suggestions that we'll definitely be using!!

Would drapery or string lights work with the ceilings???

My reception venue is pretty bland as well and I am adding up lights. The centerpieces however will be very simple with palm leaves, floating candles and votive candles. I’m considering drapes in certain section of the venue but haven’t made up my mind about it. Also my coordinator suggested I go with white linens instead of navy for the colors to pop and room to look brighter. Just a thought since you mentioned navy linens

I wouldn't add drapery to the ceilings because it will just make them look lower. The woodwork is actually quite pretty, and with good lighting and flowers, the room will look nice. The venue might prohibit you from hanging anything from the ceilings (or the walls) anyway, so I would check with them before you plan anything else. I also think white/lighter color linens would be better than navy if you are concerned about the room looking too dark.

Your venue is so pretty maybe do an arch at the ceremony and have some dripping at the reception

Uplights can make a big impact for a low cost. Check these before/after photos:
