Dried flowers vs real flowers

Madison, on October 7, 2017 at 6:05 PM Posted in Style and Décor 1 10

Ok so, I don't want to spend over $250 for my wedding flowers. I know that sounds super low, but I have found some really pretty bouquets on etsy with great reviews and I can totally make that budget work. I've heard that dried lavender falls apart very easily, but looking at the reviews, I don't think I need to worry about it too much. My question is, does anyone on here know any brides who have gone this route and loved it? Or regretted it? Has anyone already ordered dried bouquets and are in love with them?

Ive gone the route of super low floral budget, but not dried flowers on etsy. I am diy floral center pieces, floral crowns, corsages and boutonnierres and order my bouquets and alter arrangments to stay at $400 budget. On the diy, Im using combination of real and fake flowers for centerpieces. Cant tell the difference and they held up good...the pic is a sample of fake and real flowers 2 days later. This wil go around a candleabras. Good luck with your wedding florals!

I got 2 custom bouquets for less than $150 and loved them! I had very specific types of botanicals that I wanted (special meanings for the groom and I) and fresh flower florists didn't stock all of them! I was anxious about using dried flowers instead of traditional fresh, but I'm not sure anyone noticed as I got several compliments on my bouquets. They were on the small side, but that was fine with me since I didn't want them to overwhelm our classic, relatively simple gowns. My MOH especially appreciated that they were lightweight when she had to hold both bouquets. They smelled great too with the lavender being quite calming when I was anxious Smiley winking Best of all, they will last and become wonderful keepsakes. I gave one to my mother and kept the smaller one.

I tried picking and drying lavender on my own, and they did fall apart, but the ones in my bouquets are still hanging on after having them for well over a month. I also got dried flower boutonnieres and corsages from another Etsy seller. Overall, I'm so glad I used dried flowers. They were a budget-friendly compromise to the real vs fake flower dilemma, didn't aggravate my allergies, looked and smelled great, and can be re-purposed as long-term home decor.

I almost did the dried flower route. They do look beautiful. But we decided to DYI our flowers. There's a flower shop where I live that I can buy flowers by the bunch for pretty cheap. It's going to be a ton of work but will keep budget low. Also my centerpieces will only have 2 or 3 flowers and will only make a couple of larger arrangements for other tables. And I only have 2 girls in my bridal party. Helps keep cost down

Have you looked into DIY fake flowers? The price may be around the same, without the fear of them falling apart.

I ordered sola flowers from Southern Blooms Co. and I love them. I spent less then $400 for 1-Bride Bouquet 5-Bridesmaid 1-Jr. Bridesmaid and 6-Boutonnieres.

My original plans for my bouquets was to do dried lavender and dried wheat grass. Our wedding was laid back and rustic so it would have worked. However, I didn't like the way the two looked when put together. Everything was so pokey and I wanted more of a rounded bouquet for me and my BM's. That's when I discovered sola flowers. I still incorporated the dried lavender as a filler in my bouquets along with dried baby's breath that I dried myself. My bouquets were a little on the fragile side but we get to keep them forever.

@Sparky_B it depends on the type of flowers, how they were dried, and how they're stored/displayed. Some can last for years, others are more delicate.
