Drink Tickets for Rehearsal Dinner

Sarah, on July 16, 2018 at 10:13 AM Posted in Parties and Events 0 4

We are having our rehearsal at a very modern Italian Restaurant on the second floor where there is a full bar and lounge with high top tables, couches and a patio. We have some fairly heavy drinkers in the family, and we are thinking of doing 3 drink tickets per person. After that, it will be a cash bar. We want to keep it casual and relaxed and encourage mingling, while not breaking our budget. Has anyone else done this?

I wouldn't do this. I would just do beer and wine and let the bartender know to cut anyone off who is getting to tipsy. If you are hosting a party, you shouldn't be charging guests for alcohol.

    Yeah, don't do this.

Since it's an Italian restaurant, could you just have wine served on the tables? I went to a bridal shower at an Italian restaurant a few months ago and they just had a bottle each of red and white on each table. The waiters would replenish as needed. I'm not sure if the host set a limit on the number of bottles or not, but I'm sure this kept costs down vs. a full bar. And since it's an Italian place, it'll totally fit with the vibe.

Since this is a dinner you are hosting you should be paying for all of the drinks. This is especially true for a rehearsal dinner since it is a thank you to your VIPs for supporting you through the planning process (and for rehearsing).

If the budget is limited you can opt for a few cost-saving measures:

    1. Host beer and wine only (no hard liquor) to cut costs

    2. Cut the guest list. Only WP (and their dates), plus immediate family needs to be included. You do not need to invite OOT guests or other people.

    3. You could look into a cheaper restaurant. Rehearsal dinners do not need to be fancy. We are doing a small get together at our place with pizza, salad, a dessert tray. We will have beer and wine available. It is much cheaper than paying to take everyone out for dinner and I like the relaxed vibe.

We are doing open beer & wine at our Italian family-style RD, but we will have a private room and the waiters will be serving beer & wine to all the guests. I think drink tickets are better than a full cash bar, but I'd just do open beer & wine if you can!
