Drinking glasses instead of a candle votive

kellie, on August 28, 2013 at 12:27 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 7

I saw on another site where a bride used drinking glasses from IKEA for her centerpiece rather than using candle votives (vases?). It looked beautiful as she had 6 on each table at various heights. I would love to do this (and save a ton of money) but am concerned of the glasses shattering due to the heat? has anyone seen/done/experimented with this?

    She probably used fake candles.

A wedding we attended in July had wine glasses centerpieces with lamp shades and LED candles. It was simple and pretty.

She mentioned using soy candles and that they had a 7 hour burn time so they were real, but maybe I'll check into the LED candle option to see how it looks or experiment from home. I'm just afraid of shattering glasses during a reception yikes.

I found glass shot glasses that were even less expensive than plain votive holders and used the battery-powered votive candles.

I threw a dinner party a few months ago and we used ikea glasses for candle holders, with normal tea lights and it worked fine!

As long as the glasses aren't too much taller than the candles and the airflow is adequate to keep the glass from having a sudden shift, and the flame isn't right up close to the glass, you should be fine. You could always get some and try it. Even glass holders labeled as candle holders can shatter if they get too hot.
