Dropping lbs for Engagement Pictures

FFW, on January 21, 2015 at 7:34 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 12

I am newly engaged (Christmas 2014), and my wedding is set for 14 months from now. Because my FH is studying for the bar exam we won't be taking engagement pictures until early March 2014. I already work out (when I can) but I am considering dieting and turning up the work-out for the engagement photos. I don't want to lose much weight (10 lbs or so), but I am wondering if its worth it? And if anyone else have tried to do this, did you lose the motivation since you have to start it all up again for the wedding ? (from what I see people usually take the photos as soon as possible, even the day/week after the proposal, so I am not sure is anyone would have any insight).

I guess the way I see "engagement photos" are pics taken not long after the engagement. Otherwise I wouldn't call them that. I like your motivation though! There is nothing wrong with waiting and taking pictures, you want to look your best!

Youre wondering if losing weight is worth it?-- im confused.... if you want to lose 10lbs then yes its worth it. I would think.

engagement photos can be taken anytime during your engagement, there isnt any set rules for this... they are usually used for wedding related stuff.

Ignore Kristine. They are still engagement photos if you take them at any point during your engagement. And if you want to up your workouts, I say go for it. You will probably want to for the wedding anyways, so it would be great to start now.

I also thought at one point engagement photos were taken upon getting engaged, but I have since learned different. Now, I see most of my friends do theirs in the weeks before their wedding.

I've been using MyFitnessPal to lose weight for the wedding. I have lost 10 pounds in 7 weeks, really doing absolutely nothing. I just track what I eat, and it makes me think, "Oh, don't eat that cookie." I do not feel like I'm dieting at all. I love it so much they should give me an endorsement...

I guess I just meant that engagement photos are commonly used for Save the Dates and other wedding related things. If you wait long, you may not use them for those.

Engagement photos can be taken whenever, and since your wedding isn't for 14 months I think you could even take the pictures in March and still use them on save the dates, so no worries there.

Now to answer your actual question- is losing weight worth it? Sure? It's probably good to get into the habit of eating right and exercising, but only you know whether losing the 10lbs will be "worth it."

Engagement pictures can be take anytime. We were engaged 8 months when we had them done, and still had almost a year until the wedding.

It's up to you if you want to lose weight?? If you are happy with your appearance then I wouldn't worry too much, but I wouldn't kill yourself with a crash diet or something.

OMG, I need to get on this. It's been tough for me because I had a very serious foot injury and can't work out. Maybe I'll just go crazy once I get clearance from my surgeon to exercise. It's usually a big part of my life, but unfortunately, I haven't done anything since Sept except get three plates and fifteen screws (billing $160k to my insurance company) into my foot.

    Congrats by the way!!!

With your Wedding in March 2016, and taking your photos in (I'm guessing you meant) March 2015, you have a year, thats plenty of time to get the pictures for the save the dates/wedding stuff.

On the "dieting" I wouldn't advise the mentality of "starting up again" for the wedding, you should just start living a healthier and more active lifestyle now and keep at it.

We got engaged in July and took engagement photos in October, I didn't have them for my save the dates, but who cares.?? I did them online anyway...

I got engaged in April 2013 and we had our pictures taken at the end of June 2013. We waited because we wanted everything to be green.

10 Pounds is totally worth it! I did not work to get in shape for engagement pics (it actually never crossed my mind) but I did lose some pounds for the wedding. I lost 14 pounds prior to the wedding and if I look at engagement pictures compared to wedding pictures I see a huge difference!

Go for it! Schedule your pictures a few months out and hit the gym in the meantime Smiley smile

Thanks Everyone! And Yes TYPO, I meant March 2015 for the engagement photos. and Sarahdell that's exactly what I had in mind (looking back and compare the two and think about the difference). And thanks for the advice on the engagement photo timing, I am the first in my circle to get engaged but other people I saw taking engagement photos were doing them so fast, my FH's cousin even had theirs scheduled for the day after the proposal to surprise his fiancee (I thought it was a cute idea since the excitement would be so fresh). But yes I think its worth a shot.
