Dry cleaning and pressing your wedding gown...?

CPeterson, on April 14, 2010 at 2:28 PM Posted in Planning 0 9

Is anyone not getting their dress cleaned or pressed? Mine looks clean, however there is a little bit of make up on the inside of the top part of the dress from fittings kind of along the "collar" (shouldn't have worn make up to them!), its a strapless dress and I'm pretty sure you can't see it and the rest of it is clean (from what I can tell). It cost about $120 for cleaning and pressing but to my eyes it looks ok and I could really use the money for other things...is it really necessary to have it cleaned and pressed? What is everyone else doing?

It's not necessary, if you don't want to then don't. My dress is going to be steamed at the bridal shop before I pick it up, and will clean it if something happens to it while it's in their care (I don't wear makeup often so I'm not worried about that). But if you think it's good then don't bother. Maybe put it on and ask someone who doesn't know about the spot if they can see anything and see if they notice it without you pointing it out.

I ordered my dress online but when I went to try on dresses at David's Bridal they recommended getting the dress steamed ahead of time to give the dress a fresh, look without looking stiff. I chose a dress that has tulle and large pickup's which also makes it important so it's full and puffy and not flat.

Mine has pickups as well but no tulle, I will have to look into that. Puffy is much better then flat!!

I'll probably have mine steamed and hang it and the slip upside-down to maximum volume.

Kshively: never thought about hanging the dress upside-down.

Has anyone done this or know anyone who has?

My MtOH did and she said that it helped give her dress some "umph" but I'm not sure how long that lasted...

I got fake tan inside on mine during a fiting and noticed a small small stain near the breast are. Wonder if they can remove that?
