Dumb Question - Mailing Invitations

Summer, on June 5, 2018 at 8:20 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 26

This feels like a stupid question, but what's the best way to ensure my invitations go out properly - after they're all sealed with correct postage (I already got them weighed before I bought stamps), should I just put them in the post office mailbox, or should I take them in and give them to a person (is that a thing for regular letter mail?).

If it put them in the mailbox, should I rubber band them together?

Thanks!

I'd take them to the post office and drop them in an interior box

If they're all sealed and have the correct postage, a regular mailbox is fine. I personally put mine in the drop box at the post office which lessens the amount of movement and card damage. Don't rubber band them together.

I'm taking mine to the post office to drop them in the interior box. We have almsot 100 invites so I just feel better doing it that way

I would take them into the post office. Weight isn't the only thing than can cost extra postage though. Did you have the post office look at them?

I handed mine to someone at the post office, but I think if you put them into an interior mail box at the post office, it should be okay.

Thanks, yep they put the outer envelope on the scaler and weighed at the same time - all good!

For my invitations I had to go in to ask someone to hand cancel them (I used wax seal).

For all my thank you cards (shower and wedding) I used the outside box and ha no issues, everyone has received them.

I walked up to the clerk and gave everything directly to them. I felt so much better handing it over to an actual person than dropping it off in a box. Don't ask lol

I dropped mine in an exterior box on my way to work. Everyone received them. Don't rubber band them.

My fiancé dropped ours in a box at the post office and it would seem as if they started moving that day as someone got theirs the next day.

Personally, I'd take them to the post office and put them in a drop box to ensure peace of mind, but your regular mailbox should work just fine as well.

I would walk them in and hand them to a worker.

I handed mine to the guy behind the counter at the post office because I wanted to see an actual human take them. I felt weird leaving them in the mailbox, although I'm sure that's fine to do too. But yes, it's a "thing" to hand mail of any kind to the postal worker.

When you hand a worker mail, they pretty much just end up putting it in a box anyways. But postal workers seem to be extra careful/kind about wedding invitations. They know what they're handling and the importance to you. So I think you're fine either way.

FH brought ours to the post office yesterday, had a postal worker double check the postage (we should have done this prior to stamping them but...it all turned out fine) and them gave the whole stack to the postal worker behind the counter. I'm hoping people start getting them either today or tomorrow! I'm so excited! It feels so good to have them mailed out.

I will either drop them off at the post office or if I can’t get there I’ll hand mine to my office’s postman. We have the same guy every day so I somewhat know him/ trust him with them.

Same! We had 100 invites and they were all stamped and ready to go, but i needed to hand them to the lady behind the counter. I needed the satisfaction of seeing USPS take them! haha

Sent them out Friday and most people got their invites yesterday!

I took mine into the post office with the intention of putting them in the box there, but it was so slow that day that they hand cancel-stamped them! I wasn't planning on it, but they look really nice
