During or After the Wedding, Party Favors

Monique, on October 9, 2022 at 8:00 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

The 2 things I've been thinking about the most are programs and favors. Since they are the things that most guests forget to take with them, I want my guest to have something memorable from us but I don't want to waste money on something they may forget to take. So I was thinking of having the favors mailed along with our thank you notes. Has anyone done this?

That's not a bad idea, though keep in mind that postage costs will be a lot higher if you're mailing an item along with a thank you note. Also consider that sometimes, some guests intentionally leave favors behind. Not everyone wants a koozie/bottle opener/cookie/shot glass/etc (though many people enjoy them!). If you mail them, some people may still end up tossing them out or donating them. If you choose to do favors, I would just hand them out at the wedding, and choose something that you wouldn't mind having leftovers of (edible favors are often more popular for this reason).

As for programs, I would skip those, unless your ceremony has anything that isn't typically seen in a wedding ceremony. From weddings I've attended, most of the programs are left on the chairs during the ceremony, and it can be a waste of paper and money, as well as be one more thing to clean up at the venue.

Yeah, I thought about the cost too. I was thinking of just sending one per household and that will help with the cost. I'm leaning towards no programs.

Unless you have a long wedding with many different parts where guests may not be able to follow what’s happening without guidance, you can skip programs. We had a Catholic Church ceremony so unfortunately could not skip those 🙃

Edible favors would be less of a waste and if there’s some leftover, you can gradually consume those after the wedding unlike objects.

I made these to have at my wedding and they were a hit! Butter mints are so yummy and people snacked on them while waiting to get called to the buffet line !

I did sanitizer bottles and face masks, all of them gone. It depends on the crowd but it sounds good to send them with your thank you cards

Favors are hit or miss. People leave them behind because they don’t appeal to them. In some social circles, edible favors will be consumed at the wedding. In other circles, no favors of any kind are preferred. We have attended weddings where no one touched edible favors and the couple’s parents couldn’t give them away.

As far as programs go, they are only needed or used if there is a religious/multicultural ceremony that guests need to follow along. Otherwise they are left behind. Side note: these can be recycled instead of tossed in the trash.
Unless these are must haves, save your money and put it towards the guest experience that they will actually remember: great food, free drinks, great dj.

Since we are having a photo booth, those pictures are our guests' favors. I did purchase magnetic picture frames for those photo booth photos, so this also will be their favors. (Saw this suggestion on these boards, yay!) If I didn't have that, it would have been a packet of seeds with some cutesy saying I saw on Etsy. Most of our guests will be flying in, so I needed to be mindful of travel restrictions & plausibility.

I personally didn’t do this, but I think that would be an amazing idea! We did decks of cards for our guests and I remember trying to remind people to take them and stuff and it was a little stressful😅. So I think mailing them with your thank you’s is a perfect way to ensure that!!
