Dying flowers in the wedding

Liza33, on February 25, 2011 at 3:12 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 4

So , one of my friends did this and I thought it was kind of neat, but do you think its too tacky?

We have quite the amount of guests, and are doing a Jewel-tone winter wedding. We were thinking of having ALL white bouquets and having tiny bottles of food coloring for everyone to 'dye their own ' flowers. We were thinking a longer version of the attached picture with white roses.. but do you think it will dye by the end of the night? The vase would be similar to ...

I feel like i need to just go out buy some food coloring and a bouquet of white roses and experiment!!

But is it tacky? I just want SOME sort of fun element for the wedding! Do you think it will get too messy?

Thoughts??

It takes a lot longer than that. And, I would think it would be messy and possibly get on the linens.

I'd also worry about it getting on peoples nice clothes. I have a lot of artistic friends and have been trying to find something fun and artsy to incorporate too, haven't settled on anything yet, let me know if you have some more ideas.

Carnations are the fastest flower to soak up dye and they take over 24 hours to finish. I remember doing that in grade school and having to leave them overnight. You get some colour after half an hour, maybe more by the end of the evening... but I don't know if that would be a "fun" element for your wedding.

If you want to do something craftsy, have you considering DIY Guest book pages? You buy a thick stock paper in bulk, then leave enough pages at each table for everyone and some pens/pencils/markers for them, along with a note saying something like "Please decorate a page for our Guest Book, make sure to include your full name and address on the back of your page."

Then see what kind of awesome artistry you get from your guests! Less messy and also fun! Have a Guest book table still set up, with a basket to collect the pages and the pens/markers. Then when you get back from your honeymoon, get them bound together at Staples. ^_^

Well you image looks like an Osiana rose - they come that color & are not dyed. And you want the guests to alter the centerpiece flowers during the reception? Not a good idea - they guest book pages are very fun to do & would be a better idea.

If you want your maids to have custom colored flowers, either buy them in real colors or (if you must) use Design Master Just for Flowers spray.
