Dying Sola Wood Flowers diy ?

Deanna, on May 10, 2019 at 8:59 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 11

So just bought my sola flowers for my girls and my bouquets. I also just got some acrylic paint and fabric dye as I have seen both sold on different sites, so figured I would try both to see what the results are like.

However my questions are:

Would there be any reason to not dye these outside on a warm day, leaving out in the sun to dry? Everything I have read or seen so far seem to always be inside but I am worried about possible messes, even if plastic is laid down.

Also I see everyone just laying the flowers on a rack or even in a egg carton, has anyone used either method and does this leave lines or take off paint? I don't want weird lines on the flowers. Not all of them will be used in bouquets, some will be to give to our moms during the ceremony, so want them to look good from any angle.

Any suggestions on this process is very helpful, seems easy enough, but still kind a nervous about messing it up. (Although I have plenty to test it out on)

Thanks guys!

It is pretty easy! I would definitely test a few first to make sure you have the right water-to-paint ratio for what you want. I also just used craft store acrylic paint and it worked out fine. I did mine inside just because it was cold the day I did them. I just took over my parent's dining room table and didn't have a problem with the mess not being contained in my work area.

I laid mine to dry on newspaper, which I regret because the paper stuck to some of the flowers. My next round I plan to lay out on wax paper. I'm sure like a cooling rack would work, too.

    Good luck!

It's to dye them if you got the natural ones. I have seen both Rits-Fabric Dye and the acrylic craft paint used. From the comment earlier, sounds like the acrylic paint worked well, I figured I would test out both. When I ordered off Michaels online they had a 40% off the whole order, such a great deal! I may test out a few today, if I do I will post pictures.

At the moment working on my DIY 2- tier Cake Card box, first coat painted and letters painted. =)

Omg, this is SO INCREDIBLY helpful! Thank you SO MUCH! Especially for including the amount of dye for each shade. Did they change color much once they dried?

Your welcome, i did to to help me too cuz i bought way to many paints at michaels lol. Had to keep track! Though i def think the fabric dyes are the best for your money as there is more in the bottle then the acrylic paints i bought and used half the bottle. Pixs attached after they dries side by side the sister colors. The whiteish one is done in acrylic paint called white pearl so just has some simmer.
