Dying your wedding veil

Sierra, on March 11, 2018 at 11:13 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 9

Hey everyone! Hope the planning is going well! 💍 Let's talk veils... Last month I bought a veil off Amazon... Reviews were spotty in either it was great or poor.. but to only pay $14 in comparison to store prices of $100-300 I took the chance.. the veil came in a couple of days and I was surprised! Even though the comb had detached from the veil and it looked surprisingly great! I could attach a new comb no problem (Walmart has a pack of 12 Combs for $2) ...the only real issue was the color was white white... To my fault, I ordered white thinking it would match a soft white dress..for future reference I am sure an ivory would look better..another option the veil had. The color was extremely obvious and I had two options DIY it or return it... Ya girl HATES returning things so I tried to dye it myself 💁

I did research and some people had used tea or coffee to do so...again it was spotty in the results...$14 is only $14 right? Right. So...I dyed it with lipton black tea! I initially put 4 teabags in a large pot on stove, boiled it, and let it cool and then dipped my veil in..I got SO nervous that I took it out within 30 sec..washed in cool water and dried in the dryer..FAIL..there was no difference...so I repeated with 1 min time..NOPE...Then I decided to add more bags..a total of 6.. I put my veil in cool water first, put in the cooled tea for about 5 min, rinsed in cool water, and dried...it was PERFECT..well after I steamed it 😎

There is no wrong or right way to do this but if you decide to do this I hope my experience has helped you in some way.....

Total price: $17 ...veil+Combs+tea ❤️

I’ve done this with a few things. I made my flower girls and Jr bridesmaid headbands and the flowers were white. I dyed them in tea, rinsed and they’re perfect. I think I’m going to be dying the headband part too but I’m undecided. It’s good to know a veil can be done too. It looks great btw.

I’d never thought of this! Thanks for outlining it. My veil is one of the last accessories I need to find...

It turned out beautiful! Congratulations on perfecting your outfit!

(btw, we're date twins! Are you feeling the pressure yet? Or just excited? I honestly can't tell if I'm more worried or excited most of the time!)

The pressure is ON... Im starting to become more irritable with my FH which I feel bad about but I'm soooo excited for it to be so close. It seems so surreal!

It does! I have so many details to finish and it's really getting under my skin, but I'm also just excited to marry my best friend and have it over with!

Everyone who tried dying with tea, can you tell me if you had any problems with it bleeding onto your dress when you wore it?
