I've been eating clean a few weeks but I haven't lost any weight. I do have a lot more energy though. I feel great and I have practically no cravings. I do have a history of unhealthy restrictive eating and bingeing and purging so I'm trying to do this the healthy way this time. The problem is I haven't lost a pound. I am doing moderate exercise (about 30 mins of running a day). Advice?

I also have a history of sliding back into unhealthy restrictive eating, excessive exercise purging etc. I am a pro at losing weight and keeping it off using those methods but it is extremely unhealthy but easy to slide back into over time. With that history for me the most important thing is to remember that it takes TIME and the scale is your worst enemy. I have found because I have that history it takes even more time than someone doing the same clean diet and excercise because of my previous habits. I have actually talked to my FH about my fear of sliding into that pattern as the wedding approaches to lose weight. What helped for me the most is taking measurements each week and seeing the little differences that will add up to big differences and talking about it with FH. It gives me more motivation to see those numbers changing even when the scale does not or actually goes up. Because you have the same history like myself please BE CAREFUL, I know how easy it is to slip back into those habits especially when get frustrated with the scale.

My dad has been a personal trainer for over 30 years if your just trying to lose 6 pounds TRY a cap full of Apple cider vinegar with raw lemon and honey in a cup of water or green team twice a day and drink about 6 to 8 8 oz cups of water a day with less starchy foods and more fish and chicken breast skinless and lots of

    green vegetable leafy is Better

Everything JoRocka said is on point - follow that. Be extra careful with any kinds of snacks. Excess snacking is a sure fire way to keep from losing weight. And I agree with everyone who mentioned strength training. Strength training is an amazing way to actually change the shape of your body. Also, DITCH THE DAMN SCALE. It does nothing for you. Your weight can fluctuate throughout the day. Just being bloated throws off the stupid scale. Measure your progress in inches not lbs.

I agree with the gorp and dried fruit, so high in sugar! Can you substitute some fresh fruit instead? Also, if counting calories is a trigger for you what about watching portions? I weigh and measure everything because it's so easy to eyeball the wrong portion size.

I've struggle with multiple eating disorders all my life, I understand.

I also eat clean and unless your just consuming vegetables you need to watch it.

A pound = 3500 calories. if you want to loose a pound a week, you need to burn 3500 more calories than what you take in. On average a woman needs to consume 2000 calories a day to maintain. So if you consume 1500 calories a day your body will burn 500 calories and you should loose 1 pound in a week (7 days X 500 calories= 3500 calories burned). The more you exercise, the more calories you burn and you could loose additional pounds. You shouldn't consume less than 1200 calories a day or the body will think it's starving and hold onto calories so you won't loose.

^^^ it's a little lower than that usually, **** for a moderately active woman.

Because sometimes being a woman does suck.

If you still have triggers, like counting calories don't use vinegar. It's a natural diuretic and you could become dependent on it for water weight. If you drink 8 glasses of water you will not have a water retention problem. It's when you don't drink enough water that the body holds onto it.

And yes, I use to drink a coffee cup filled with straight vinegar because I thought water was making me fat.

Maintenance calories depends on your age, height and build and currant weight and will be different for everyone. There are calculators online to give you a better idea of what yours is.

Switch from fruit to veggies. One med apple has 95 cal & 19g sugar. One bell pepper has 24 cal & 2.9g of sugar.

Bell peppers, cucumbers, carrots, and avocado (very low in sugar fruit) are my fav snacks.

Dosnt matter if its dried or fresh, most fruit has lots of sugar and is best suited for breakfast and in moderation satisfying sugar craving

Thanks for all the feedback. I'm gonna cut the gorp and dried fruit. The reason I eat it often is because it's convenient but I guess we have identified the culprit. I am going to try veggies and hummus as a snack instead, and cut the gorp completely for the next few days.

@NowPartyof2 I can relate and I would hate to have this wedding cause me to backslide after finally learning to eat in a healthy way.

Keep in mind, if you lose lbs, your dress still might not fit (i.e. you might not lose it where you want to). Also, at 138, 6lbs is quite a bit - so it's going to come slower.

    Don't stress yourself out!

@MrsA - thank you for the timely reminder about calorie thresholds! I have a calorie budget of 1400/day (thank you Lose It! App) but I've been averaging 1100. I've noticed that the scale hasn't budged a bit, nor is there a difference in how I feel. Maybe my body is going into "starvation mode" and retaining everything? And yes, I do exercise (walk 30 minutes/day, weights 3X/week, etc).

    Hey Emilie,

I am an Exercise Physiologist and a lot of my coworkers and I have been pushing High Intensity Interval Training with our patients/clients to lose weight. This type of exercise is typically 45 seconds of an intense exercise and 10-15 seconds off. Usually its 4 rounds of exercises and lasts around 30 minutes. When you spike your heart rate and let it come down some, then spike it again, you burn a ton of calories. As long as you keep eating the way you are and try adding this into your exercise routines you should start to see results. Usually you will burn more calories with HIIT exercises than just your usual running or elliptical, and the best part... IT'S LESS TIME! I do PIIT (Pilates Intense Interval Training) when I can't exercise for a long time. The trainer, Cassies, is awesome.

    I hope this helps!

I track my meals every day through myfitnesspal.com and I have lost 30 lbs since January. You put in your goals, height, weight, etc. and it gives you a calorie intake number along with all of the other nutrients. Some times you don't realize exactly how many grams of something you are putting in your body until it's on paper.
