Eczema

Little Star, on August 2, 2018 at 11:42 AM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 21
I was recently diagnosed with eczema. Unfortunately, it is on my right eyelid of all places. I was using a prescription ointment which I hated. The side effects are itching and burning so it just makes my eye worse. Nevertheless, I used it twice a day for 10 days as my doctor said, and it cleared up. Fast forward 9 days later and my eczema has already flared up again. I’m so sad and frustrated. Is this my life now? I’m so worried I’m gonna have a flare up on my wedding day. It’s not until April but it still stresses me out.

Any other brides dealing with eczema?

My friend has this and her doctor worked with her to make dietary changes to help with flare ups. I would ask your doctor how best to handle this.

I recently started dealing with eczema on my right eyelid and underneath my left eye. Mine seems to come and go and seems to be related to stress. So if all possible, try not to stress (which I know is easier said than done). I have been using over the counter hydrocortisone cream. I am just EXTREMELY careful not to use too much so it doesn’t get in my eyes. It seems if I start using the cream as soon as I start feeling symptoms, it normally takes care of it for me. I’m not a doctor, so I can’t give expert advice. Just letting you know what works for me. As the previous poster suggested, it is always best to get a professional opinion. Good luck. Smiley smile

I suffer from it myself from time to time. A trigger for me is ketchup which I love Smiley cry . I tried a lot of things as well, what worked for me finally was Cortizone- 10 Max Strength Intense Healing from Walmart or target. In about 2 days it was cleared up. If you havent already try that, if you find it is burning you, they also have a cooling gel one.

Thanks guys. I’ve been stressing a lot due to my body image issues. I need to find a way to relax! I’ll have to go to the store today and pick up some creams.

I’ve had this since I was 10 and it flares on my hands, lower stomach, and eye lids and recently behind one of my ears. Ugh! I used to get it on my knees. Thankfully patches do sometimes go away - or find a new spot lol!

It’s super annoying but to keep everything in perspective it’s best to think of - this could be oh so much worse. My one cousin is like covered in psoriasis. My sister as type 1 diabetes, my dad had rumatoid athritis. My aunt has lupus. If all you have to deal with is a little patch on you eye lid - you’re doing well! This is what I remind myself when I get a flare.

My best advice is learn your triggers. Mine are onions, cold weather, cats, seasonal changes, and tide. I also get migraines that come when it comes. Unfortunatly there will be triggers you can’t figure out and you will end up with the occasional flare up. I had a small flare up on my eye the day of my wedding. Good news is the make up artist was fantastic and you couldn’t see it at all! You will get used to it!

Btw: for your eye you don’t want anything crazy powerful. My doctor just give me 1% hydrocortisone cream. It clears up in a day or two and it doesn’t burn or anything. He always said use it sparingly. Do not use anything more powerful than that.

For your eye, try asking for a cream, not an ointment. I’ve had eczema my whole life (sadly there’s not much I can do about it but hope for the best, and I’ll be in a pile of triggers for my big day [sweat is a BIG trigger for me, which is awesome 😒])
ANYWAY, as a kid I would ALWAYS go for the cream version if available. To be honest, I think ointments work quicker/are more effective, but they’re also obnoxious and uncomfortable. I find creams burn less and don’t make me so red. Especially around the eye I think something less goop-y would help. It’s way easier for me to be regimented about applying a quick cream and staying on top of it (also key! I found some very effective ointments, but they only lasted as long as I used them regularly , and I never wanted to bc burning and redness)

I have had really bad eczema on my left hand and wrist. Every time I think it's almost gone it flares up again. Here's hoping it is gone for my wedding

Sorry you're dealing with this! I, too, get eczema on the back of my neck occasionally. Skin conditions are very often a result of what's going on inside - food intolerances, allergies, stress, and hormones. You could try eliminating the major food allergens - gluten, dairy, eggs, corn (or start with a couple) and see how it goes. The Ultra Simple Diet is a great elimination diet guideline (if you want to go big). Not to be salesy - but in addition to being a bride, I'm a holistic nutritionist and could possibly help - smart-mouthed.com. Good luck! Try not to stress, I've found that's the biggest trigger of all!

I also have eczema and like a lot of people said it can be triggered by your diet or allergens. I’ve noticed that when I take a daily allergy pill like Claritin (to deal with seasonal allergies) my eczema always clears up. You could try taking Benadryl or another allergy medicine and seeing if it helps and then that could be a backup option for if your eczema flairs up right before your wedding.

I don't have eczema, but my FH has it and his flare ups are on his eyelids and around his mouth. When he uses the steroid cream right at the start of the flare up, it clears up almost entirely within 12-24 hours. I would say just keep an eye on it, and start using the ointment as soon as you see a flare up. Maybe keeping it with you in your purse will help?

I had this exact condition in high school and it was AWFUL. It was only on my eyelids and my butt... very weird. The skin was red, flakey and would come off in sheets. I would look into your diet and see if you can manage the condition with that. Luckily, I have not had eczema since freshman year of high school, over 12 years ago, so it could go away on its own before your wedding.

Hi! I have psoriasis all over my elbows back of my knees, my underarms and face so trust me when I tell you I know what you are going through. My Dr. put me on a steroid topical cream and it took it right away. However, whenever I'm stressed it flares right back up. I found staying extra hydrated helps a ton as well as using a nice facial lotion that won't make you break out to keep the area extra hydrated. Also changes in diet can help as well. Incorporating more fruits and veggies in your diet can help as well. Yoga and meditation helps to keep my stress and anxiety down so it doesn't flare up. This is not a promotional post but I recently started taking a supplement by Katy Hearn and Haydn Schneider called Balance that has helped with balancing my hormones and aiding in decreasing my stress/anxiety and it helps keep my flare ups to a minimum!

I love Katy Hearn! I follow her programs and I am looking into trying their vegan protein powder since whey makes my acne bad. I have heard tons of good things about balance but I am hesitant to take it. Do you really think its worth it?

Oh it's 100% worth it. I can't even begin to tell you how amazing this stuff is. My skin has since cleared up, my energy levels are so much higher, my stress/anxiety is to a minimum and the hormone balance feels amazing! The pills can be opened too so you can put the contents of the pill inside food like yogurt applesauce and stuff if you don't like swallowing pills. I would totally recommend investing in getting this monthly you will be so thankful you did! She and her hubby are amazing humans!

Thank you all so much for sharing your experiences and advice, I so appreciate it! Today it seems like my eczema has cleared up a bit. I got some Aveeno and I am continuing to use my ointment sparingly.

If it gets to be worse, I’ll definitely make an appointment with a dermatologist.
