Elegant Halloween: Tacky or Awesome? *PIP

Goodbye, on June 26, 2013 at 1:01 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 40

I always had this dream of an "Elegant" Halloween themed wedding. I'm not talking about candy corn, witches and ghosts, I'm talking about tall, black candelabras, deep red roses, TONS of candle light with little hints of 'creepy' things...A little spider decoration tucked in the roses of the centerpieces, maybe a little fog creeping out from behind the bar area (my venue okay'ed a fog machine)...Things like that...We currently planned our wedding to have more of a fall theme which is more inspired by fall colors as opposed to having leaves and pumpkins in our decor. We have bought a couple of things to go along with the fall theme, but not much.

Point being, I am absolutely stuck on the Halloween themed wedding, my FI is all for it, my mother likes the idea, but is afraid I won't be able to execute my vision. What do you all think? Should I take the plunge and switch the theme? Is it too tacky?

FUN!! I like the color scheme. You might have to be careful not to go OVER-board .. and have it end up "cheesy". I'm a firm beleiver that sometimes, less is more.

    Hi Month Twin! :-)

As you can see our wedding is actually on Halloween. We're not planning on doing a full out Halloween theme but we're definitely playing off the holiday. We're leaning more towards harvest theme.

Now we will definitely have pumpkins/jack-o-lanterns involved, a trick or treat candy bar, Thriller and Time Warp will be played, BM's are wearing black with bright shoes, etc...so elegant can definitely be done with a Halloween twist.

If you and FH are good with it...go for it! My mom and dad's anniversary was Halloween (my dad has passed) and FH and I love Halloween. Whenever someone hears that we're getting married on Halloween it makes perfect sense to them.

    Happy Planning!

I think it's great. Actually when you mentioned this it made me think of a wedding I saw online. This one does use elements of pumpkins and stuff, but I think it's very well done. (I was originally considering this venue for a November wedding...)

    Some ideas we've kicked around?
Table names after candy and then using that candy as place cards. Like putting a sticker with the guest's name on the back of a snickers bar.
    Candy apples/caramel apples as favors
Having a "Pick Your Poison" sign at the bar

I have a notebook full of ideas. Some we're executing, others have been discarded.

Feel free to connect with me and we can chat in PM.

Love it! I like the deep red with the black, and all your little ideas. Kinda gives it an "erie" elegance without being too creepy. Smiley smile

Saw a Halloween themed wedding on "Four Weddings" and it was great. They even did a haunted house @ the end of the night.

I absolutely love Halloween and all the ideas you are thinking of. I have a very gothic style though, so i would say that could be what it comes off as. Not an elegant Halloween, but gothic romantic. Which i still think is gorgeous and extremely romantic.

I know there was an episode or 2 of Four Weddings where a bride(or2) did it and it looks gorgeous. But of course the other brides were being haeful bitches and complained about it being too dark. But i find it romantic so everyone will have their opinions and the only thing that matters is that the 2 of you like it.

I like the idea. The first pictures look very "gothic romance" and you may want to consider googling that to get more ideas--I'm afraid that "Halloween wedding" will turn up lots of cheesy ideas. It looks like you're on a great track, though!

I love it! My mom is trying her darndest to get me to have our wedding on Halloween next year. I would love to do it but I'm ready to be married now so, moving it a few months may kill me. lol. Plus, I know my colors are set and I don't know if pink, black and gold would go for halloween. Smiley smile

I prefer Halloween the most for Holiday weddings. What you have describes sounds so classy with a touch of macabre! If you DIY there are so many supplies you can get to help with your theme. I think it is pefect!
