Elope/honeymoon

Alli, on May 4, 2018 at 9:35 AM Posted in Planning 0 9

In a series of unfortunate events... my fiance and I are tinkering with the idea of eloping. We had planned a brunch wedding and get on our flight for honeymoon that evening - all I wanted was to leave for the trip on the same day like they do in the movies.

Kicker is, our flight and our photographer are booked out of our hometown.
Has anyone eloped and honeymoon'ed a few weeks later?Or got married and honeymoon'ed a few weeks later? I'm worried I wont get the whole "honeymoon feeling" that i'm so excited to feel.
Another thought I had was elope in our hometown and take a weekend trip, then go on our planned honeymoon a few weeks later... thoughts/advise?
THANKS!

I'm leaving about 5 days after my wedding for a short 4-5 day more local honeymoon and then we'll do a larger one this coming winter when the weather is colder here in MN. I like the idea of spreading things out a bit - to keep the excitement going for awhile!!!

You will likely be exhausted- then you'll end up wasting a whole day of your honeymoon resting. Are you sure you want to do that?

I have personally known several couples who have married and then honeymooned several weeks or even months later. I encourage you to choose the best timeline for your and your partner's schedule. You are celebrating each other. When and how is not for anyone else to know.

We're having a very small destination wedding in August and then won't go on our actual honeymoon until January/February 2019. FH is still in his first year at a new job and doesn't have enough vacation to do our wedding and a vacation at the same time. Plus we can have a break financially for a bit.

I don't think it'll be a problem! It'll give you guys time to relax if you have a wedding, pack for the trip, store your dress & decor, return his suit (if renting), put away gifts. You will still totally get the feeling!

I got married in March and we scheduled our honeymoon for July, so I am waiting a lot more than a few weeks. It's difficult for both of us to take a lot of time off or work at once and I wanted to take the week before my wedding off. I took a couple of days after off. We stayed near our wedding venue for an extra night (we got married 2 hours away from where we live) and I also did a night out for us in Boston with a hotel the Tuesday after for a little romantic get away. For our actual honeymoon, we are going on an African safari, so I'm thinking it will still feel like a honeymoon as far as a big once in a lifetime trip with my H, celebrating each other, even if it isn't right away. My sister also gave me the advice that when she went on her honeymoon right after the wedding, she was still pretty exhausted from all the work leading up to the wedding, that she was really tired throughout her honeymoon and didn't think she enjoyed it as much. I think you will still get the honeymoon feeling as long as you treat it like a honeymoon (pop some champagne, arrange rose petals on the bed, whatever romantic/cheesy honeymoon things you want to do).
