Elopement Party

Chelsea, on July 8, 2018 at 2:33 PM Posted in Parties and Events 0 13
Hello all!
my FH and I have decided to “elope” due to the stress of planning while I’m in school full time and working. We live in Colorado and plan to get married here with parents and close friends/siblings. We would like to have a party in Michigan where all of our families and friends are. We want to keep it super casual at someone’s house and rent a tent with walls and heaters as it will be in November. Has anyone done this or is anyone planning to do something similar? We are going to make it BYOB and have normal bbq food. Should I wear my ceremony dress to this party or something else? Should we do our cake at the ceremony or party? I’m honestly not sure how to plan this since it’s not necessarily a reception.

You can have whatever you'd like! Do cakes at both, if you want. Wear your wedding dress or your favorite shirt...there's no right or wrong!! Happy planning!

As P.P. said, do whatever you'd like for those aspects! My only warning is that November in Michigan can be COLD as I'm sure you know...so cold I'm not sure a tent will be comfortable, even with heaters.

Hey Chelsea! My FS and I are getting married at the courthouse with only parents and siblings in Florida (where we live) and then do something an open house kind of party in Chicago (where majority of our family lives). We thought is would be no big deal. We were so wrong. My FS dad and stepmom are trying to make the Chicago party more of a formal wedding. No matter how many times we tell them we are just trying to do something stress free and casual they don’t seem to get it. This weekend we decided to cut the Chicago party and maybe in 5 or 10 years we’ll throw a vow renewal out there. Hopefully you have better luck with your party.

I wouldn't wear your wedding dress to the second party, and just word it as a celebration of your recent wedding and just an informal BBQ/BYOB casual get-together. Wearing wedding dress does not send casual vibes to me.

I know, that’s what i’m worried about! It’ll be hard to plan because the weather chnages so quickly. Not sure if it’ll be mild, rainy, or snowy!

I’m sorry you went thru that! We will definitely have to make it know that it’s just a get together.

It was actually a big relief to not have to worry about anything. The most important people will be with us on our wedding day and that’s what’s most important to us.

We are having a DW and a celebration at home next May (we both have big families and they have all expressed wanting to celebrate with us) we are keeping it super casual (also doing BBQ and doing it at an Italian center with a DJ because I’m still going to require dancing lol) but i WILL be wearing my dress because when else can I? Lol!!

We aren’t sure yet. We are still 2 years away, but we’re planning on having parents and possibly siblings. We are thinking about this now because we want to make a final decision so we don’t have to worry about a budget!

My biggest concern if you invite too many (you were mentioning friends), then it just turns into a wedding that not everyone was invited to.
