Elopement Planning Group

I've been struggling on whether to tell my parents before or after our elopement. My mom is the youngest of 4 kids (by 12 years between her and the next oldest). She tends to throw a fit like a 5 year old when she doesn't get her own way. Yesterday, we were talking about a graduation party my best friend is having for her daughter and I had said that I hoped she got the turn out they are expecting because parties are expensive and time consuming to plan and so many people always say they will come and don't. She agreed. I thought that was my moment to test the waters and said, "That's why Chris and I are debating even having a wedding." Her first response was, "Just have a small wedding a big reception." I reminded her that the reception is the expensive part. Then it was "Well, I want to be there either way." I hate to tell her that is not happening. Because if it would...it would be, "why don't you invite your brother (who I don't speak to" "Why don't you do things this way..." "It would be nice if..." I don't want it. She "helped" plan my wedding in my first marriage. We're doing things our way this time around. I now just don't know what is going to cause less drama...telling her...We are still eloping and we will live stream for you. You're just going to have to accept that. OR not tell her until afterwards. This woman did not talk to me for 2 years after my (very friendly, very mutually wanted) divorce and instead, talked to my children through my exhusband. That's what we're dealing with.

I think I have decided to do nothing today. I have no clients scheduled. My boss and the other therapist are on vacation. I somehow hurt my foot/ankle and it was swollen and painful yesterday...good so far today. I think it'll be a day of Ghost Adventures and elopement planning.

View Quoted Comment We announced before but I wanted to announce after. I compromised because I didn't want to deal with any meltdowns when we returned. So annoying how even when people aren't invited they make it all about them.

View Quoted Comment Our date is July 20th, coming up fast! So far no issues other than having to accept the entitlement of every person trying to force their way in and 'be a part of it' but I try not to take it personally 😂. In all honesty though, we're getting pretty excited!

Hi ladies. I am driving myself crazy. I don't know if I want a new dress for the elopement. I'm not extremely happy with my body and I think that's part of the issue. But, I also cannot decide if I want dark green or a more traditional color and I feel like the dress I have is too covered on top and my chest is one part of my body I'm actually proud of. I just can't keep buying dresses...and being plus sized...it makes shopping hard.
