Eloping without a reception

Sassi, on July 26, 2018 at 4:02 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 7
FH and I want to elope somewhere tropical just the 2 of us then send out announcements letting family and friends know we’re married. It’ll be my 2nd wedding, his 1st. We don’t want a party afterwards, instead we want to wait til a milestone like our 10 or 15 year wedding anniversary and just throw a nice anniversary party instead. It’s not only for financial reasons - neither of us like to dance or be the center of attention. We want the elopement to be Sandals or something similar so there’ll still be flowers, a boutonnière, photos, etc. Has anyone done this? A reception isn’t required when we get home, is it? If it were, wouldn’t people forgo the elopement and just have a 20-guest wedding? We’re already in our 30s and would rather spend the weeks after our elopement on the honeymoon, spending time together and having adventures.

I don't think it's required. It's totally up to you and your fiance.

    Hey Sassi!!

I know that a lot of other WeddingWire community members have done this!! I personally think it's a great idea! I wanted to check in and see what you and your FS decided for your venue?!

I'd say it's 100% fine! My FH and I are wanting to elope and only planning the other party to appease the family and friends who are upset with us and feeling left out. If we weren't getting such push-back I think we'd skip the after party too! We're also in our 30s and more interested in going on some fun adventure together to kickstart our marriage than planning a big party. Do what makes you and your FH happiest!
