Embarrassing Wedding Moments

Joleen, on October 20, 2016 at 5:02 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 19

I just know something embarrassing and/or awkward is going to happen to me on our wedding day lol. So that gave me the idea to ask you all out there who are married now; Did anything embarrassing happen to you during your wedding? I'd love to hear your stories! Smiley smile

DH never tried on the button up shirt that went under his suit jacket. He realized it was way too small just before our ceremony was supposed to start so, he had to run and buy one. The only one he could find had really long sleeves. On top of that, I also forgot to buy him cufflinks. So, our ceremony was postponed while he went to buy a new shirt and his sleeves are way too long and flappy looking in all of our pictures. I actually think it's hilarious and it gives a good story to tell people.

And that is the key, Mrs. S.-- what is embarrassing at the moment becomes your favorite story down the road! At my wedding, DH and I had written our own vows. Like an idiot, I didn't write mine down, so when the time came I totally forgot what I'd meant to say! I muddled through pretty well, but DH took it as licensed to say whatever he wanted. He started with, "I love your boogery sneezes..." and I was ready to whack him with my bouquet. I mean-- it was a pretty casual wedding, and he couldn't even be serious for the *vows*!? But then he went on and got all choked up, when I hadn't even cried, so I forgave him.

At a friend's wedding, right in the middle of the vows the golf course made an announcement, "Smth party to the green, please. Smith party, report to hole one." Caused snickers and giggles all over-- even the officiant!

I got hit with the giggles so hard, I spat the communion bread on the priest.

Also nearly tripped over my dress three times trying to get to the altar.

    Full of grace, I am.

Our officiant didn't come out when DH did. To be fair, DH didn't know he was supposed to walk out with him. Pastor left during our first look, and DH didn't go get him before I walked down the aisle. We didn't have a BP or anything; we had a private family only ceremony. So, the music is playing, I walk down, it's a beautiful moment for everyone, and there is no pastor. BIL had to go get him while DH, my brother, and my papa stood awkwardly at the bottom of the aisle. Pastor felt so bad. It was honestly hilarious and it broke the very heavy emotional mood in the room (we moved the date up because my mom had stage 4 cancer). It was very intense for everyone and we needed a moment of levity.

My officiant was about 10 feet tall. My DH and I are really short. We didn't meet him before the wedding, but it made for awesome pictures, and he was the sweetest person ever! (I'm 4'11" and DH is about 5'6")

    ETA: Found a better picture

My husband got lipstick all over him during our first kiss. Maybe red was not the best idea?

I also could not stand still, I kept swaying back and and forth (I'm really fidgety in general) my mom had to whisper to me to stand still.

@Emily oh nos! Were you able to get it off of him? My mom wears red lipstick and it leaves a stain when she kisses someone lol.

I stressed out at dinner because my dad kept getting up and walking away/actually left before the dances to help my father in law grab something from their house (which was really only a few mins away) but I stressed out about the dances so much that at that moment in time I assumed he was trying to back out of the father/daughter dance (my secret fear) so I got up, teary eyed, said something about it and ran to the bathroom, hahaha.....my best friend and mother in law consoled me and my dad pulled me aside and was sweet about it, I was just stessed and being dumb, everything after that was fine. Smiley smile haha

Our best man had pretty serious intestinal surgery a few months prior- we were thrilled that he was even able to make it. One of the side effects was he had to burp a lot. One came right before one of my readers (my old babysitter/next door neighbor, who we loved to be silly and burp a lot). She whipped around thinking it was my brother and started laughing. Not sure if anyone else noticed but it was one of our favorite parts!

I tripped and stumbled (didn't fall) walking back from our first dance. People laughed, I laughed, but I was embarrassed.

FH and I went to his cousin's wedding back in the Spring. We live in NC and the wedding was in TX so we had to fly and then get a rental car. FH's brother had to do the same. FMIL had a steamer in her room since all our clothes would be wrinkled from travel. About 2hrs before the wedding, we take our clothes to her and she is appalled by FH's brother's pants. They have never been hemmed. When he puts them on, they are so long that you can't even see his feet. We have to then start googling tailors in the area to see if anyone can help short notice. We find one so off we go in the rental, in a city that we have never been in. While we are waiting for them to be hemmed, we get a call from FMIL. The father of the bride left his dress shoes (for his tuxedo) back home, hours away. Another google search and shoes are bought. It all worked out in the end and made those pre-ceremony beverages even more refreshing!

@Mrs. CK: that is so cute! I'm also 4'11 and H is about 5'6-all of our friends our significantly taller than us, particularly his groomsmen who were almost all over 6'0. We look like the king and queen of munchkin kingdom in the wedding party pictures.

Not at my wedding, but I was a MOH about 5 years ago. The MOB did the dress alternations (*not recommending*) and she didn't take in the bust of my (strapless) dress enough. As I walked down the aisle during the ceremony, I stood up straight with my shoulders back... and I could feel the dress slide down my back, exposing my bra. When I got to the alter, the BM behind me hiked my dress back up for me.

ETA: I guess for my own wedding, I was barefoot outside. I stepped on a leaf walking up to the pavilion where the ceremony was held. It bugged the shit out of me, so I had my dad stop about 10 feet from the beginning of the "aisle" so I could stop to pick it off. All the guests totally saw it happen.

I went to a distant relative's wedding a few years ago. At the ceremony, during the vows the officiant did the usual (paraphrasing) "Do you promise to be faithful...?", the groom cut off the officiant and said "I can't make that promise." - He was joking but the room fell dead silent and the bride's dad quickly walked up to the alter. I thought he was going to punch the groom but instead he just stood near his daughter until the ceremony was over.

It was super awkward and I felt so bad for everyone, including the dumb groom because he was so embarrassed for himself.
