Enchanted Evening Under The Sea, In Space, Red Carpet Drag Show

Mandi, on January 25, 2020 at 11:30 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 15

If you think weddings need themes, this post isn't for you.

My fiance and I are getting a little annoyed because we are constantly being asked what our wedding theme is. Our personal opinion is that weddings don't have themes. I spent several years of jr. high, high school, and college working on planning committees. I didn't want to deal with a theme. A little ridiculous.

We are constantly being asked what it is though. Our photobooth people asked us, and made us come up with a theme. Which they came back and said they couldn't accommodate. (We went with Things We Like) but that includes a lot of intellectual properties. So it was a no go. And we didn't expect it to work,

So now we've decided that our new theme is Enchanted Evening Under The Sea, In Space, Red Carpet Drag Show, Just because it's ridiculous, just like the thought that two 30 somethings would need to theme a wedding.

Any specific question that is repeatedly being asked of you that you find annoying?

When asked, it’s easier to give out your wedding colors as the “theme”

Then people shouldn't ask us what our colors are and then ask us for a theme if it's the same thing.

A lot of wedding industry vendors like theme weddings, because people rent and buy many special items at great expense to themselves and great profit to those vendors.
Just a classy event makes them less money . The few theme weddings I have been to were pretty juvenile.

    Okay. This makes more sense.
Our flecks of things are definitely juvenile, but we wanted a dash of Disney, not a whole Disney wedding.
Our flowers and cake toppers are the only things with the Disney theme.

My husband had the best response when asked what our theme was: our theme was 'wedding.'

A few touches of things you like, even if cute kid stuff, as cake decorations etc, is personalizing your wedding with a few favorite things. Juvenile is when every chair back has a sock puppet from Sesame Street, covering both sides of it . 18" high cookie monsters, Kermits, Ernies and Burts, over 150 of them, with painted paper machine necks and heads of Big Bird rising from the center of each table, and posters of the words to "one of these things is not like the others," and other songs from Sesame Street, decorating the walls. Or, having the entire WP enter the reception as Wookie Warriers vs. ( don't know enough Star Wars to identify) opponents), Who did a staged fight in place of dances, for half an hour. Then posed for pictures holding their Wookie and other headpieces but wearing fur Wookie suits, with family and guests holding props. Men and women both. MOB my friend, was surprised! And upset her daughter took off her wedding dress and wore a Wookie suit all reception, with all BM and GM, 18 costumed people, and guests in formal attire they requested. THAT is juvenile.

LMAO! Oh my. And that's why we haven't said that is our theme. Holy whatnot. We did have one of our bridesmaids husbands tell us he was going to come dressed as Deadpool. We told him that we wouldn't stop him.

I completely agree with you about the theme thing! I don’t have a theme either, didn’t think it was necessary since it’s on the beach. So if people asked they got the “well.. it’s on the beach so......” answer and they got the point. Haha.

We didn't have a theme either. When I was asked I just put elegant and our colors. I think it is unnecessary to have a theme.

Same. Uh, my theme is wedding. Why would anything else be necessary? That's so weird to me.

LOL! This was SUCH a pet peeve of daughter's.... At first she just looked at the asker like they were crazy. (Their date was in January, and upon hearing they didn't have a "theme," someone suggested she consider, "woodland forest animals"! She just shook her head.... We live in a major SoCal suburb and the venue was a country club. Nope! No chipmunks allowed!). She tried really hard to stick to describing the theme as "wedding," and when that just wasn't acceptable for some, she finally started saying, "traditional and elegant."

OP, your current "theme" description is hysterical, I literally just about snorted coffee when I read it. To each their own, but sometimes when I read about posters' "theme" ideas I have no choice but to just move-on because I'm sure anything I respond with will violate a community guideline, and I really try not to do that.... I wish you the VERY BEST "enchanted under the sea, in space, red carpet drag show" wedding ever and CANNOT wait for your BAM! Smiley heart
