Enforcing covid precautions

Nikki, on August 23, 2021 at 8:27 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7
Hi everyone. My wedding is January of 2022, and while so much can change by then we are currently planning for covid to be just as it is now. My soon to be father in law is newly on immunosuppressants and we are extremely concerned about him being kept safe during the wedding. Majority of our families/guests are vaccinated and we are asking guests that are not vaccinated to wear a mask. But since this can be so detrimental to his health, we are taking it very seriously and don’t know how to enforce it to make sure everyone is doing what they can to keep not only him, but everyone safe. Any suggestions on how to “enforce” the vaccine or mask situation?

The only true enforcement is to call/email all your guests and ask them to send proof of vaccination. I would also make sure you seat him at a table where you know for a fact everyone else is fully valued, including booster shots since many people will be eligible for those by January.

Just food for thought, since you have an immuno compromised guest… vaccinated people can still spread the virus. They can still have it in their bodies and be contagious- the vaccine simply protects the vaccinated person from becoming ill (or overly ill).. it does not protect others around them. So really, the only way to make it safe for those who are not vaccinated or who are immunocompromise, is to have every guest wear a mask.

Hi Nikki, a few suggestions to consider - those handing out programs when guests enter, have them set the example of wearing a mask. When guests arrive, it silently demonstrates the expectation this is a masked event. We had a decorated PPE table upon arrival of the ceremony with masks and sanitizers. We had wristbands I customized to say “toasting from six feet away” in which autoimmune guests or anyone can wear. It was a silent (and effective) symbol of guests that should not be hugged or kissed. I sat autoimmune guests on the outer edges far from those guests who had to travel in for the wedding. Hope this helps ❤️

I used Wristband Bros and made an order online. I made ours a peach color to match our wedding colors. They were great! ❤️

I too am having a vaccinated event because I want people to hug, be close and enjoy without having to wear a mask in the summer heat. Some of my covid protocols are I am having an all outdoors event, ceremony and reception. I am asking my guests to be fully vaccinated 14 days prior to the wedding. I am also asking it of my vendors that will be close to the guests such as officiant, servers, bar staff etc. I am requiring the servers, and officiant to wear a mask. Because some vaccinated people can be positive and not know it, I am asking my guests to provide proof of a negative test 24-48 hours prior to the wedding, to not attend if exposed to covid in the last 10 days and to not attend if they have a cough, fever, runny nose or sore throat. Lastly I’m putting the info on my wedding website and a small insert in the save the dates and invitations so people can decide before they rsvp.
