Good point Celia. We both had to be present at our local court house to swear in and sign prior to our upcoming wedding. Personally, I would love this...I just want to marry my FH, this planning has had its ups and downs...I could take a pass on it all.

@celia and everyone else inquiring about the license. I read that they got married in Maryland where I believe only one person has to show up for the license, but, it's a 48hr waiting period.

I posted on this yesterday. Last night, my FH and I was wondering about the marriage license too. We took a premarital class with them. It happened on a Saturday with the courts being closed.

I don't think I would like it. I don't like planning and making decisions, but I would want a say in my dress and hair/makeup.

The wedding happened in MD. In MD only one person needs to go as long as they have the other partner's information. I know this because I am in MD and my brother also did this this past April (proposed on a Thursday and married on a Sunday my SIL had no clue about any of it)!

ETA: It was a beautiful wedding. I cried like a baby watching it and the footage from friends I know who attended!

Wasn't there a reality show based on this concept? I know I saw one episode.

I think it was a very sweet and emotional gesture. Their love was so pure. I think this is perfect for someone who loves surprises. However, I enjoy planning my wedding even though it can be alot sometimes. I wouldn't want to be robbed of the experience of choosing linen, cake, venue, dress and just being a fiance, anticipating our marriage. Otherwise, we would have just went to the court building. My FH is romantic, but I couldn't leave the coordinating in his hands lol

Very sweet, but not for me. I enjoy everything involved with the planning process! I enjoy the process of being engaged and taking every moment in. I wouldn't like having everything rushed and done at once and then totally over with.

I think it's a beautiful idea! I mean I personally wouldn't like that, although if my FH did do it, I'd still enjoy myself because he would have put all that effort in to surprise me. It's still awesome and if it works then great!

I thinks it's adorable! But personally, I would probably hate it. I'd appreciate the effort and planning, but I enjoy planning things. I'd want to have a say in wedding plans!

Celia-- couldn't they both sign it at the ceremony?

I think I would be a little bummed to miss out on all the 'looking forward parts', but skipping all the 'stressing out' parts would be *fabulous*!

    Hated it.

Wondering about the validity as Celia said.

And then they have a honeyfund.

    Yuck

@LuvBeingMarried2Him - I think I would prefer a surprise wedding more like the one your friend had than the #ForeverDuncan. Both brides seemed over the moon, but in your video, the groom seemed more receptive to the bride's input. There are times when I wouldn't mind bypassing all of the drama that comes with planning.

That said, I don't know if FH and all of our friends and family would be able to keep it a surprise. Plus, my MOH knows that I want a raunchy bachelorette party, and I wouldn't get that if a wedding were sprung on me. I'm pretty sure my MOH would tell my FH that if he tried to get her input on a surprise wedding.

I think the only way ever that I would be okay with this was if we had previously discussed and agreed upon a very very simple, elopement style wedding and one day he just woke me up like, I love you, let's get married today. (assuming we could get a license that fast)

But for a larger wedding requiring a lot of (or any) planning, I would feel pretty cheated that I didn't get any input or get to put my style into the wedding (I work in the design field and am very very particular) I would not trust anyone but myself to pick things like the photographer, my dress, jewelry, shoes, decor. DH knows me better than to do this. I would be mad.

Ah, I'm too much of a control freak. That is so sweet, but would give me too much anxiety.
