I'm 18 years old and my boyfriend and are both in college. We're engaged and planning on getting married in June of 09. The problem is that my parents aren't very supportive of our decision and aren't going to help pay for the wedding. We figured that with a year and a half, and by limiting our guest list a little bit, we can afford to pay for the whole thing ourselves without cutting back on things that we really want for our special day. Any thoughts on any other things we could do to save money without having to compromise our idea of the perfect wedding?

Congrats - not sure if you have found a location for your wedding yet - and I am sure you are getting great advice - but a place to look at would be all inclusive locations - places that offer all sorts of services and packages - as much or as little as you need (i.e. invites, DJ services, photography, food and beverage, facility ceremony areas, florlas, cake, etc.) Take a look at www.wedgewoodbanquet.com - they have all of that and can work well with saving you money and not compromising your perfect wedding! Good luck!

Using a wedding planner SAVES YOU MONEY!! I don't charge my brides for my service, I have price point weddings and the vendors I use pay me. You tell me what your budget is and I tell you what I can do for that price--and it doesn't cost you a penny for my services. For example, for $1000.00 you can have 50 guests, a wedding cake, an appetizer buffet(meatballs, wings, chips/dips, potato skins, deviled eggs) or buffet dinner (salad, chicken, potato, green beans) spiked punch, a limo, an officiant, a video of the ceremony, and music from a 5000 song Zune playlist at your home. All you need is a dress, a marriage license and a fiance!

Congratulations on your engagement! My younger cousin got married when she was 18 at an Elks lodge. The family felt she was too young but Im proud to say we all pulled together to give her a nice wedding. The ceremony and reception were both at the lodge. My aunt got two columns which really set off the ceremony site. All of the family brought dishes and I was her wedding coordinator. At the end of the day it turned out lovely. That was over 5 years ago and they are still married and my cousin not only earned a BA in the marriage but also a MA. It can be done! Stay positive and dont be afraid to ask for help from friends and supporters!

    Good Luck!
