Engagement Announcements

Shannon, on May 14, 2019 at 4:33 PM Posted in Parties and Events 0 7
So, I am battling the decision of sending engagement announcements. Is this a normal thing to do for weddings? I know social media is huge and basically all of my friends now know, but wouldn't it be more formal to send out the announcements? The ones I like are $250 so I am wondering if it is worth it? My fiancé says he has never heard of this but he is a guy so that doesn't mean to much to me. Any opinions?

Most people will send out save the dates which I suppose also serves as an “engagement announcement.” I don’t think there is anything wrong with sending an engagement announcement but if I received one, I would expect to be invited to the wedding and would probably be pretty annoyed if I wasn’t, so just keep that in mind! Maybe best to wait until you have a venue booked and a guest list written up, and you can send save the dates

Yes, what Gen said.. It's not common to do, but if you did send something out, you should invite everyone you sent an announcement to..which can add up on the guest list very quickly. I skipped save the dates as well as most of my guests wouldn't need to make travel arrangement.

It's pretty old school and expensive and unnecessary. I'd skip them. If you announced it on social media that's fine. You could also announce it in the local paper, my mom wanted us to do it but we never got around to it. As stated above, if you send personal announcements to people, they should be invited to the wedding.

I don't see the reason to announce something people already know, put the $250 towards something else wedding related, like invites or save the dates!

I've never received an engagement announcement. I think they're outdated and an unnecessary expense.

The only type of engagement announcement I’ve seen people do is putting it in the newspaper with a blurb about the couple

I've also never heard of engagement announcements aside from calling people and social media. I would skip them and wait until you send out the STD. You can just let people know verbally or on FB or something.
