Hello everyone!

I am throwing an engagement party that is informal. On my invitation, I am unsure if it is proper to add " follow by food or drinks" or "follow by reception". Originally it was followed by a reception, but I am unsure if an engagement reception is a thing. Please help!

Engagement reception is not a thing, leave that for your wedding invite. You don't have to include anything like that if its an informal engagement party... I think people would assume food and drinks are provided - I don't get the whole "followed by" part, what is it following?

Agree with this. The engagement party is the entire event. Since it is informal, you can send out a text/email

The original template for the invitation came as " reception to follow". My mistake.

Yeah just take that part off completely if you want to send out invitations. Just provide date, time and location and contact info to RSVP if you want a headcount for food/drink if you want but its not necessary if its informal.

The engagement party is the whole thing, so you wouldn’t need to add “reception to follow”.
