Engagement party alternative?

Ok so right now my FH and I are on the fence about having an engagement party. The places we were looking into wanted so much money for such a small amount of guests...and we figured that money could be used towards the actual wedding. We've been engaged for almost a year and everybody knows...so instead, we were thinking of just doing a family dinner with our moms and siblings...

Has anyone else decided not to have an engagement party or come up with another alternative?

    We just completely skipped it. There's enough parties around the wedding, in our opinion Smiley smile

    After a year, I wouldn't bother. Although some couples host their own engagement party, it is still generally hosted by someone else in your honor.

    Congratulations on your engagement!
    My FH and I skipped the engagement party, and have been pretty lapse in the photos department too 😬 but oh well xD there are so many parties already, that one seemed like a waste of resources since everyone knew anyway 🤗

    We are to be married a little after a year of dating/courting and being friends 3 years. Smiley xd My FIL's thought that was pretty darn quick ( but they married after only 5 weeks of KNOWING one another so xD
