Engagement Party and Divorced Parents who don't get along

Jenn, on June 28, 2010 at 8:48 PM Posted in Planning 0 5

We want an engagement party because our families have never really hung out together, and we think this is a great opprotunity. My mother who has a lake front property offered to have a BBQ at her home (which to us sounds great and CHEAP) unforunately my father and mother do not get along, so what am I suppose to do? My mom has no issues with my father its my father with the issues. Both parents are remarried and they have been divorced for 21 years. I don't want any issues especially with my parents and I would never want anyone to to feel uncomfortable.

My only suggestion would be to talk to your dad about it. Let him know you are keeping his feelings in mind, but you really want the party and want to go forth with it as long as he is ok with it.

They need to put their differences aside for the sake of you and your future spouse. Talk to your dad tell him how much it would mean if he could attend, but he must be civil with everyone...including your mom.

Have games and other things going on so they don't have to be forced to talk to each other!

Can't your dad act mature for a few hours for you? Sounds like you mom got over things and there will be other people there. Not like they have to sit together or even talk for that matter. Tell him it is important to you and hopefully that will be enough. If he can't do it then it is his loss.
