Engagement Party Dress Vs. Bridal Shower Dress

Rebeccah, on May 16, 2019 at 2:28 PM Posted in Parties and Events 0 14

Hey everyone! I'll start by saying I know you should wear what you're comfortable with that suits your style but I have some discussion questions for "traditional attire etiquette". I've read and seen so many different what to do and what not to do's for weddings. I have a dress picked out for my engagement party but I'm still open to options. Since I am the bride am I supposed to wear white to the engagement party or the bridal shower or both? There's definitely a lot of mixed opinions. Below is a picture of the dress I have in mind for my boho outdoor/ garden engagement party May 25th.

Thank you for your time and consideration and congrats on your engagement/ marriage!

You don't have to wear white for one or any of your pre-wedding events. I personally think seeing the bride in 4 different white dresses leading up to the wedding, takes away from seeing her in her actual wedding gown.

I wore a navy and gray floral dress to my bridal shower. I'm not a white clothing person because I have a dog..and well.. there's fur on about everything it seems. Wear whatever you are comfortable in. White used to be the big tradition, but now it's whatever you want.

You don’t have to wear white! I think that dress is really pretty. I’m also having an engagement party May 25th and I’m wearing a black floral maxi dress!

Same! I didn't wear white to my engagement party and I don't plan to for my bridal shower. I think it's fun to show your personality with different colors or patterns. If you're worried about not looking bridal, which I am, I decided to have a Bride to Be sash and my bridesmaids will have one too at the shower. I think the dress you picked is beautiful!

You're getting a lot of mixed opinions because there is literally no "supposed to" or etiquette around bridal attire for any of these pre-wedding events. There isn't even any for the wedding itself, although there are of course traditions.

It really will come down to YOUR personal preference. Shop where ever you usually shop for special occasion clothing and buy clothes you feel good in (or wear something already in your closet!). Full stop. Smiley smile

I wore a short white dress to our engagement dinner last summer. I just bought a cute really light blue floral dress yesterday that I'll probably wear to something else wedding related. I like the idea of white because you're the bride and its fun. I don't think there's anything wrong with wearing white to every wedding function that you want to. But when I said I'd be wearing white to my engagement dinner, my grandma, aunt, and mom thought it was unnecessary and my FH grandma asked me if I was going to wear white to everything for next 2 years.....I said "yep i'm the bride!" hahaha. So really I don't think there's a right answer and people are going to have something to say pretty much no matter what you do.

Wear that! It’s super cute and what you like. Some wear white to EVERYTHING but I don’t think that you have to. I’m only wearing white to our engagement party because it’s a luau themed party and my dress is white with hawaiian flowers 🌺 on it

You don't need to wear white for anything and wearing a white wedding dress only became popular when Queen Victoria married Prince Albert in the 19th century. Wear whatever you're comfortable in and reflects your personality! My wedding wardrobe will include a mix of new and clothing I already own.

That dress is super cute!! Agree with everyone else, you don't have to wear white to be the bride! I will probably not wear white to any of my events simply because I look awful in white. My complexion does not work well with white. I will stick with light pinks, maybe a peach or some shade of blue for my events. Wear what you feel the most confident and happy in and you'll be the most stunning bride to be!

I'm wearing this to our garden engagement party today. Perfectly colorful for the yard. I say wear what you want. Your dress looks perfect.

I dont even plan to wear white on my wedding day.
I'm too practical to buy more than one dress I'm only wearing for one day.

Also, I mentioned the wearing white to pre wedding parties and she looked at me like I had 14 faces. I guess this is some new modern trend and not at all a tradition.
