Engagement party dress?

Sara, on October 23, 2018 at 8:18 AM Posted in Parties and Events 0 10
Hi! My engagement party is this weekend, early evening Sunday, at a small cute French Bistro in Brooklyn, with about 50 family and friends attending. What should I wear? I have a few dress options, but I don't feel great in any, or like any of them is right for the event. Should I stick to a specific style or color? Does everyone wear white or cream? Some of my dress options seem to be too dark or the material too heavy. I've had my eye on a cute pale pink dress, maybe I should go with that.. I'm running out of time to make a choice, what are your thoughts? Thanks! Smiley smile

Dress to the formality of the event in whatever color makes you feel best!

Hi Sara! What's so awesome about engagement parties is that you can honestly wear any color you want! If you are feeling good in a pale pink dress, I say go for it! What kind of style is it? Since it's an evening party, is it more on the formal side?

Is there a way to add a picture here? I just got the pale pink dress, along with a white dress with little black flower print on it. The pink is cute, and I feel cute in the white one. Either could work I think!

Dear Sara, wear something that's according to the weather and theme to your wedding.

Lets start by wearing a 3.25 sleeve length top with a knee length skirt, a wide belt, a scarf around your neck or pearls with matching earrings, thick leggings to keep you warm, wear some non-slip shoes if its wet. Absolutely no high heels, unless you wanna webble-wabble everywhere. so stick to a flat o low heel shoe. If you want to breathe during your wedding rather than freeze or feel sweaty in your wedding outfit, wear cotton and thermals, these fabrics will keep you cool and warm throughout the entire day from start to finish, k. good luck.

Here are 2 I like - a pink one, and a white one with little black flowers on it. (Ignore shoes, bag, and hair!)The engagement party is this Sunday, 2:30-5:30, in a cute little quirky french bistro in Brooklyn. Weather will be clear and mid 50s. I also have a teal 3/4 length-sleeve heavier sweater dress, knee high, with a small heart-shaped key hole on the neckline (though I feel like that material is too heavy/dark for the occasion..). Thoughts- white or pink??

I love both of these, so cute!! I think I'm going to vote for the pink though, I think it'll be perfect for the type of venue you'll be at!

Thanks so much Kelly! I had also posted this question on another wedding forum site... and got a lot of reactions that the dresses were too casual, one girl even said that that's how she dresses to go grocery shopping.... (?!) I started to feel really nervous and made plans to go to Rent the Runway and a million other stores, new shoes, a different bag, what about my hair, my skin is too pale, wait are the desserts right, ...run away train! Is this what wedding planning does to people!?

Luckily my fiance saw the spiral and gave me a pep talk. We sat down and made a plan and remembered we purposely chose to have a casual event - We didn't send formal invites, we don't have any wedding-themed games or activities, we don't have a registry yet, we don't even have a date or venue yet... we just wanted a fun get-together for our families and friends to start meeting each other, eat some good food, and to help us celebrate. We may plan other things later like a bridal shower, where I'll wear white and get a little more fancy, but who knows! I did decide to go with the pink one, and dropped it off at the cleaners yesterday with my fiance's outfit. Thanks for your kind words, I really appreciate the validation! Smiley smile

Ms. Sara, for your engagement party, wear something according to the weather but also something that matches the theme of your wedding.

For example: anything made in cotton or linen fabric, that way your comfortable. Choose small flowers, ribbons or sashes that indicate the colors that are going to be used in your wedding. That way, all of your guests will have an idea of what your wedding will be.

Our wedding will incorporate our school colors: Navy Blue, Grey and White. I went to Washington-Lee High School in Arlington, my fiancè went to West Potomac High School in Alexandria. Both schools are Virginia.

Because our wedding is taking place in the fall, we're going to use: Gerbra and Shasta Daisies and Sunflowers as our flowers for bouquets, boutoniers and decorations too.

    Good luck.
