Engagement party guests

Danielle, on December 7, 2019 at 10:36 PM Posted in Parties and Events 0 7
Hi everyone! I’m in sort of a unique situation. I am 24 and I was previously engaged to someone else, we had an engagement party where my extended family was invited and his extended family was invited. That was two years ago. I am now engaged to someone else and we want to have an engagement party in April. The question is- who do I invite? I feel weird having my extended family drive from all over to another engagement party... I have talked to a few family members and they are all understanding and said it doesn’t matter, they would love to go. I think engagement parties are for the couples family to get to know each other. I’m also thinking maybe just have friends only? But I would feel bad taking that experience away from my fiancé who hasn’t done it before. Thoughts?

Invite whoever you want there. If they don’t want to attend because they came to the last one, they can decline.

I would definitely invite your family! It sounds like they’d be happy to go and it will be a great way for the two families to get to know each other more. And like PP said, if they don’t want to come they can just politely decline Smiley smile

I guess you’re right, I’m just worried that their too nice and wouldn’t decline then all complain about it (I know a few people who’d do that).

You’re right, I just feel like there will be comments or judgements of some sort

But wouldn’t the judgment be worse if they weren’t invited? Try not to worry about their judgments - hopefully they have the sense to keep their thoughts to themselves, and to celebrate a joyous event with you! You deserve to have your family at such a special and important celebration.

While that is true, I was thinking of having “friends only” and having just our friends come so no one is offended. Luckily Christmas is coming and I can talk to everyone and see what my whole family thinks
