For us, no it isn't necessary to have engagement party.

To be completely honest, outside of your NYC-based crime dramas (CSI, Law and Order) I've never heard of them in real life at all. It's a huge expense that can be skipped.

I would say not necessary. We didn’t have one just because the way we got engaged (out of the country on vacation) and when (before the holidays) meant that everyone was too busy to throw us one during the holiday season and we got engaged on the 3rd day of vacation and were gone for another 2 weeks so by the time we’d seen our family again, it had been a little while and we weren’t freshly engaged anymore lol

Instead of doing a bridal shower or anything like that we are planning on doing an engagement party! It will be about 8 months after the actual engagement, but we are still excited about it!

Not necessary, our parents would have loved to throw a get together and cook but covid happened and I think we missed that. We are also 5 hours away two states over and so it may have been hard to get everyone there.
