Hey there! I am a little torn- I was planning an engagement party for us in about 2 months. I was excited to have one (I think mostly cause I am so excited for the wedding) but I have already moved the date once to accommodate people and still some immediate family and a lot of my bridal party cant come.

I know that before I was engaged I always was burned out by all the wedding events people host and I dont want this to feel like an obligation for other people.

With that being said- has anyone regretted not having one? Has anyone regretted having one? My parents will host it at their home and are willing but I think they in general dont really understand the whole thing.

Thanks for your feedback Smiley smile

I didn’t have one and I’m not bummed about it. I feel like I would be too stressed trying to put it together.

I am not having one and don't want one. I've never understood the purpose of them.

That was our plan; we wanted to see everyone and not have it be wedding related. It's funny because my MOH and my fiancé's BM have never met in the 6 years we've been dating lol. Best Man has turned this into a game to see how long he can go without meeting her; he's hoping to make it to the rehearsal dinner.

My FMIL is planning on throwing us one and I am not sure I am excited about it, I think she is only inviting her family in friends. I don't know if I will be allowed to invite anyone. I only just started getting invited to "family only" events. Ugh

We're doing one! But we kinda wanted it because we've had a long engagement and this will be the event that starts off the festivities for us. But we're doing really casual family barbecue with our closet friends and family and my parents are hosting it. I personally wouldn't want one that would be super elaborate or a big expense.

I hear you girl! I planned on having just a Bachelorette party! I feel like it's way too much planning, scheduling, organizing and I'm just not into all that attention. However, my FH just decided one day, he wants to do it! LOL

So I'm planning a small one at the first restaurant we dressed up to eat. Less than 40 people. We'll see how that goes, but I'm sure it will be fine.

I absolutely have no regrets about not having an engagement party. I honestly am of the belief that there’s no need for it myself. However, I know there are those out there that like to celebrate with their family and friends. For me it just was another superfluous thing that I didn’t need to do.

I didn't have one and I'm honestly pretty bummed out about it. The day we got engaged I got called to emergency duty at work for three days. So I spent the first three days of my engagement by myself and in a different state. I wish I had one so I could have had a better start to my engagement. My engagement is going to be nearly two years so the next time I do any sort of celebration is still over a year away. I wish I could got have got the experience of being celebrated.
The good news is my boss said getting married is an excused absence from emergency duty so he will make sure nobody bothers me during my wedding. I'm thankful for that.

We didn’t have one and I am not bummed about it. We are having showers and we had a Bach party. So it was a plenty!

We did not have one and not one single person mentioned anything about it. I didn't even want a bridal shower (but my sister & sister in law is insisting on throwing me one) because it seems too much with that, the bachelor/bachelorette party, plus rehearsal dinner, plus wedding. But it's your call, you know your family & friends and if you want one then you should have one!

We're having a cookout at my parents house with his parents, his sister's family, my brother and our local wedding party members. Not anything grand or over the top, just basically to have everyone meet.
