Engagement party

In our social circles, engagement parties are not done. They are basically a novelty on Law and Order. However online, they would seem to be extremely commonplace in every corner of the country/world, but online is not always representative of real life.

Only one of our friends had an engagement party. They aren't very common amongst our friends or family.

We didn't have one, got engaged during covid. I have only gone to 1. So either I'm never invited or it's just not as big of a deal as it is on TV and movies.

We had one just a couple of weeks ago! It was hosted by my good friends and was just local friends on both sides. We are a group that likes to get together for any chance of a party so it was held at a friends house with appetizers, drinks and some fun decor.

My parents also threw one for my first engagement (didn’t go through with the wedding) 15 years ago. They had invited the grooms parents who flew in and was a chance to meet.

Both of these were in the south (Texas and Georgia) so it may be regional.

I didn't have one and have never attended one.

I've been to 30+ weddings, but have never been invited to an engagement party.

I think the engagement parties usually would just be a small family gathering, not a big party. This is sort of the period to get ready for the bigger party (the wedding and reception).

Ive never been to an engagement party. We got engaged right before going on vacation and kind of just went out with our local friends when we got back to celebrate. Nothing formal, just dinner and bar-hopping like a normal Saturday night.

I’ve personally never been to one and didn’t have one but it’s a personal preference I think

We had planned to have a nice dinner with both of our families as a sort of graduation/ engagement celebration, but then COVID threw a wrench in those plans. I've only ever been to one engagement party though, so I'm not sure they're all that common. But if you want to have one then go for it! Life's too short not to celebrate
