Engagement Party?

Aimee, on January 12, 2021 at 8:04 AM Posted in Parties and Events 0 19

My fiancé and I got engaged a few weeks ago (3 and a half, if you want to get specific) and her parents still want to have an engagement party. She’s fine with it, but I’m not so sure. I’ve never been to one before, and it’s kind of late for an engagement party... but on the other hand, it might be fun. What do you guys do at engagement parties? Are they fun? Worth it? Please tell!

I don't think it's too late. I've seen people have a nice formal dinner while others are more casual with a cookout and games

Ok, thank you! If we were to have one, I’m pretty sure it would be more on the casual side. We’re saving the formal stuff for the wedding itself.

This isn’t late at all. Engagement parties typically happen within 3 months of the proposal. I’ve been to a few and they’re fine, but definitely not my thing. I also don’t like that it somewhat sets you into a guest list shortly after getting engaged since anyone invited to the engagement party should also be invited to the wedding. Typically they consist of dinner, drinks, and mingling.

It's def. not too late to have an engagement party! We've only been to one and it was alright, but I don't see a huge point in it seeing as nowadays everyone posts about their engagement on social media, so everyone that would be invited already knows, or have already celebrated with you by the time you have the engagement party.

We were going to have one this month, but only because my FBIL and his wife offered to throw us one. We've since canceled and moved it to the fall because of the pandemic, and it will be a couple's shower instead.

Whoever is invited to the party, should also be invited to the wedding. Guests just drink, eat some apps or whatever food is appropriate, and mingle. As far as gifts, guests will typically bring random stuff. For example, our friends had one and they got bottles of wine and liquor with matching wine/whiskey glasses...stuff that say "Mr. & Mrs." on it...etc.

I definitely don’t think it’s too late! If you’re open to it, I’d say do it😊 people just want to celebrate with you! And who knows, you may have an amazing time!

Oh, the guest list thing hadn’t crossed my mind until now! Other than that, though, seems like it might be a fun experience. Thank you for the input!

Thank you for the kind words! I’m definitely intrigued, but there are some drawbacks people have pointed out.

I don’t think it’s too late at all. Y’all are still very newly engaged. I think if they really want to throw one it couldn’t hurt. They can be fun

It's not too late but you get locked into a guest list that someone else usually picks out for you. Announce your engagement via phone/text/social media to closest family and friends and leave it at that.

Hi I had an engagement party! It worked out for us. We did an outdoor picnic party 10.10.20 in celebration of our engagement as well as a one year kickoff to our wedding 10.10.21. The event was casual: it was held at a cute picnic shelter and we catered picnic style foods with music and lawn games. We didn’t invite the entire guest list we have in mind for the wedding, for the engagement picnic party we only invited our parents, siblings, wedding party (groomsmen and bridesmaids), and wedding party significant others. Everyone enjoyed the event because it was outdoor, casual, and it was a nice outdoor thing that was something safer during COVID.Engagement Party? 1

I had one and I had a blast. I got engaged pre pandemic and decided to do a great gatsby theme party. I didn’t even invite to many people, for me it was just a way to get our 2 families together and celebrate our engagement. They are definitely not necessary but I had a lot of fun and don’t regret having one. Here are a few pictures of my engagement party and how I celebrated with family and loved onesEngagement Party? 2
