Engagement Party

Jacquelyne, on May 16, 2021 at 12:08 PM Posted in Parties and Events 0 4
Happy Sunday!! I have a few questions about the engagement party. How far after the engagement should the EP be? Should everyone be invited or just who we are inviting to the wedding? How did some of you do it. And my biggest question is what to wear?! Were your parties formal, Semi-formal, casual??

We didn't have an engagement party, but they are usually held within the first few months of being engaged. You should absolutely only invite people that will also be invited to the wedding otherwise it could send the wrong message. As for what to wear, it will really depend on the formality of your engagement party. For example, it can be as simple as a backyard BBQ or as upscale as a 5-star restaurant.

Like PP, I didn't have an engagement party either, thanks to being COVID safe and getting engaged in the cold snowy months. We were going to have a party with friends and family this summer to just celebrate us finally taking the next step, after 10 years 😂, but probably won't since it's been almost 6 months.

However I have been to a few that were just back yard parties to celebrate. Everyone kinda brought food and drink, had a fire. Some people got the couple gifts others just came to hang out and celebrate.
This is definitely a know your crowd type, when you get together is it casual? Or do you have fancy/formal dinner parties? I would stick to just relaxing and enjoying it however you are most comfortable.

I hate engagement parties, lol. I kinda think they're pointless since its just a pre-wedding mini version of a wedding? Just save the money and put it into the wedding. Everyone will see me there, they don't need to see me seventeen times leading up to the wedding!

We didn’t have an engagement party (I couldn’t justify the expense on top of a wedding) but generally you have them within a few months of getting engaged and you only invite those who you will eventually invite to the wedding (as with any pre-wedding events). How formal the occasion is depends entirely on what you want to do – I’ve been to casual backyard barbeque engagement parties all the way through to ones so lavish you’d think you were attending the wedding itself.
