Not 100% but I'm pretty sure an engagement party is something thrown FOR you and you wouldn't actually throw it. Same sort of rules as the Bridal Shower and Bachlorette.

Yes, you don't throw your own engagement party. Someone else does it for you, just like bridal showers. No one threw us an engagement party, so we didn't have one. They aren't necessary.

Engagement parties should be within 4 months of your engagement. Mine was a little after because of the holidays. I only invited family and close friends who were going to be invited to the wedding. We are having a 300 person wedding and the engagement party was around 60 people. If you are throwing it yourself it should be very casual like meet up for happy hour or backyard bbq and you should pay. Don't expect gifts or include registry info on the invite.

Welcome to WW, where the first thing everyone is going to tell you is that you're doing everything wrong. Haha.

I might be exaggerating. But I see humor in it.

    Honestly, whenever.

I think it's best to do it when. Your engagement is still new. I'm 3 months engaged and feeling like it's too far in to throw one.

Alternatively, my FBIL had his engagement party over a year after their engagement and a year before the wedding. It worked.

Usually someone throws the couple an engagement party within a few weeks or a month or two of being engaged. You invite people that will attend the wedding.

You don’t have to throw it yourself! We actually opted out of this and did a fancy dinner with close family and friends. There’s so many parties to have that we decided to skip it so we could focus on the other ones and the wedding. My brother and his fiancé did there’s maybe a week after they got engaged. There’s no specific time line. Whenever you have the time and are ready to party!!! Have fun girl!

My parents threw our engagement party at their home. It was about two months after our engagement. We invited in-town family and our closest friends. It was about 30 or 35 people total. Since it was the weekend of Halloween we made it a costume party and themed it "Love at First Fright"

Hi Summer! Did you and your FS decide when to hold your engagement party? When is it planned for?

In most cases, the parents of the bride throws an engagement party. It's usually planned a few months after you have gotten engaged. My engagement party was thrown by the grooms parents. The guests invited were family and close friends. It was a casual dinner affair. I believe whose invited and what type of event you want to have should be up to you. Good luck!

I don't know why everyone is saying not to throw your own engagement party. I understand why they say not to throw your own bridal shower but this is a fun dinner/party to celebrate something big that happened in your life. It isn't a gift giving event. We go out to celebrate birthdays, promotions, and accomplishments in my family and circle of friends so inviting everyone to dinner somewhere/ to a party at our house./my parents house would be SO fun and nobody would think anything of me inviting everyone myself. My fiance and I weren't in the financial position when we got engaged almost 2 years ago but SO wish we would have been because that would have been so much fun. Go for it. Smiley smile
