Whenever works for you and the host(s), typically within 2-3 months of the proposal.

Okay that’s what I’ve heard but what if it’s like 6 months out

Then it's 6 months out. It's not typical, but the wedding police aren't going to come after you. Do whatever works.

How does an engagement party even work? We got engaged in March, we haven’t decided to throw one and no one has offered to hold one for us.. I’m not bothered by it, but I feel like I’m kinda weird for not having one? Lol. 🤨

Not weird at all. I don’t think an engagement party is super common. We only had one because it was a surprise party for me after my fiancé proposed. When our other friends and my brother got engaged we just celebrated casually. Just a regular dinner to get everyone together. If you want a party, throw one. I definitely don’t think it’s something many people have someone offer to do. At least not in my area

After my fiancé proposed he tricked me into going to another restaurant that supposedly 2 of our best were at, we were going to show them the ring and then go to my moms house. Well...surprise! My fiancé had ALL our friends and family there, his parents from out of town too! It was awesome! We just celebrated, drank and took a TON of pictures.
If you plan it yourself just invite people over or out for dinner and drinks and celebrate. It’s nothing specific. It can be anything you want

Engagement parties are not necessary but if you want to you can invite people over for drinks and snacks

I didn’t have one? I mean I guess I still could I’ve only been engaged for 2 months now. I don’t know I feel like it’s not a thing where I’m from. We met up with a few close friends and family but that’s it.
