Engagement Photo Props??

Jane38, on January 17, 2017 at 11:17 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 44

Hey brides and grooms! I've been lurking for a while, and I didn't see any posts about this so I figured I would ask - I always see engagement photo ideas with props like burlap signs of the wedding date, flowers, etc. What are your opinions on props for engagement photos? Sweet? Too corny? Thank you Smiley smile

So, we are doing this thing where our kids will hold these signs. We are very excited about the photo shoot this weekend.

ETA: we are joining two families into one, and all the kids are on board and excited about all this!

I did props in my pictures. We both wore our football jerseys in one picture, I got most of my ideas off of Pinterest. super fun to put your own twist in it.

No, signs and props make me throw up in my mouth. If a couple in love needs those to make a nice photo together, I think something's wrong. I don't mean to sound trite, if that's what you like, that's great....but you asked, and I am giving you my honest view as a photographer. That's just me. Smiley smile

    I'm with the photographer ^

Props are highly overrated and take away from the photo itself.

My favorite engagement photos are ones where the couples love truly shines through.

Nothing worse than a plain photo of the two just simply holding "&" inbetween them.

    It's not cute

Usually not a fan of props, but saw this in hobby lobby and fell in love with the idea. This is the picture we ended up using for our STDs as well

ETA- just saw kitkatt's comment lol. Guess we're not cute

I agree with @Jay. My one of my favorite engagement photos is when our photographer said "do something to make her laugh" and he tried to stick his tongue in my ear. It does a great job of showing the goofy side of our relationship and it made us look incredibly natural in that photo. Our photographer couldn't stop laughing once we told her what he did, because I think it's the first time any of her clients have done that.

I think it depends on what you do and how it works out. I agree with PP that it can be cheesy, but I think if it's something small and not the entire focus of the pic, it can be good. Check out Pinterest, I got a ton of ideas there and so many compliments on my std. (which was mostly Pinterest ideas) My favorite pic was us laying on the ground and our photographer stood over us, and we're holding hands and I'm kissing his cheek and there are baseball and tennis balls all around us (we're big sports fans). We were also wearing tees of our favorite teams. I definitely think it shows our connection, but the props are secondary.

The only prop we are doing is an umbrella, and only because singing in the rain is my absolute favorite movie of all time so we are doing some vintagey shots with the umbrella.

Those won't be std's or anything. Just for me cause I've always wanted them.

Yeah no on props... not a fan on most of them. If you have a really nice background, I don't think you need any extra props.

I think props can come off cheesy. It reminds me of school pictures. I like subtle ones and actually think BBOWS is pretty cute but not the signs.

We brought the blanket in my profile pic and then this little sled. I think as long as it's subtle and looks natural with the scenery, then it will withstand the test of time. We took photos both with and without props. But the photographer used them in a way where it looked like she just stumbled upon us having a fun day sledding in the mountains. That's just my opinion though.

Not a fan of signs and such. We did wear our Cavs shirts in a couple pictures and I think that was cute but it's as far as I'd push it.

Most of our pictures are propless, but I did make these. On the reverse side, I painted our wedding date.

I made wooden numbers of our wedding date but ended up hating all the pictures with them in it. In my opinion it's a waste of money.
