"Engagement" Photo Shoot Cost?

TeeToGee, on November 22, 2013 at 2:42 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 15

My husband and I eloped last month (Viva Las Vegas!). It was unplanned, none of our family was there and only one of our friends was with us. We want to have some sort of casual reception (80 guests) and plan to do an "engagement" photo shoot for our save-the-dates, etc. How much should this cost and what should I look for in a photographer? We are not hiring a photographer for our reception (we have other fun ideas for that) so this being included in a package isn't an option.

We paid $50 for our e-pics. Our photographer was the CHEAPEST quote we got and she did a friend of ours wedding.

Not sure of the "normal" price. $1000 Maybe?

Our photographer charges $150 for the session, but if you book her for your wedding the $150 gets applied to the package price and e-session is free. We paid the $150 and then booked her because we liked her and her work.

Wow, I paid a good 200. But I got all the prints, and a free canvas. I thought she was worth it.

Shouldn't cost more than $300, although I see a lot of folks saying $500. Its not worth that much, there a re a lot of excellent photographers who charge between 150 and 300.

My photographer included it in our package but if we wanted to do a second one his normal session fee is $100 or $150. Then you can buy the prints that you like.

An experienced photographer should charge around $125-250 for an engagement shoot and a shoot should last up to two hours. There are some photographers that can (and do charge more), but you generally get more as well.

It should not be much more than $200, depending on your are and what the session includes (multiple locations, # of hours, etc.) I know there are some available through Groupon sometimes so maybe check there?

My cousin's gf did ours with her nice camera. (She is not a professional or anything). I looked up photo ideas on Pinterest, picked out outfits, some fresh flowers and went to our local park. They turned out really well. (My avatar is one of them). Maybe you can have someone take them for you?

My photographer included it in the package. If it was outside the package, it would have been $100.

I'm sure you could get a mini engagement done for really cheap. It just depends on where you live. I would search for students at a college that specializes in photography to do them.
